Saturn 20.8.22

With a few hours of clear sky predicted around 10.00pm last night, I took a chance and set up outside to try another attempt at Saturn with the 8 inch Newt and 5x Powermate. I'm pushing this scope to it's limits by shooting at f25 in less than perfect conditions but hey, you never know when the seeing might allow that high magnification to show some brilliance. Last night was not the night but I managed this shot on my last video grab when seeing had improved as the clouds rolled in. I placed a UVIR cut filter in front of the ASI224mc this time, though I don't know that it made any difference to the image quality from the last one I shot without it.

Nice image Michael. We didn't even try with the clouds last night and others have reported that the seeing was very ordinary so you have done well. Certainly, theoretically and from our past experience, the ASI224 needs an IR cut filter to achieve sharp focus. It's only supplied without the IR cut filter in it so that you can use an IR pass filter for IR only images as the RGB responses match each other from around 800nm onwards.
