Astro Camera (Anybody got anything just lying around?)

G'day All,

Looking for reasonably priced astro cameras (small and large chip), either stock (dedicated astro camera) or modified (DSLR/Mirrorless) camera.

Coming back to the hobby (imaging) after a short hiatus of a couple of years, having to buy my way back into getting hold of items again after selling everything to move and support my youngest son's medical condition.

Looking for something relatively cheap (but good!) to scratch the itch, so please don't point me in the direction of more expensive ad's already on IIS.

I am interested in covering basic imaging of all areas (i.e. generalist - solar, lunar, planetary and DSO/Nebula).

I have managed to recently pick up a SW 100ED Doublet (non-Esprit) and a SW 50ED guidescope. So I am looking for something APS-C/FF for the 100ED for DSO/Neb, and perhaps something smaller chip for the 50ED (for wide-field EAA and guiding) as well for planetary with the 100ED. More importantly something relatively inexpensive and won't break the bank (hence the older and lower level camera selection).

Cameras I am interested in include:

- Orion Starshoot Pro V2.0 (Colour or Mono)
- ZWO ASI178mc - c (Cooled)
- ZWO ASI178mc (Non Cooled)
- ZWO ASI224mc
- Canon 5d mk II astro modified
- Canon 60d astro modified
- Canon 70d astro modified
- Canon 600d astro modified
- Nikon d610 astro modified
- Nikon d5300 astro modified

If I end up going down the DSLR (APS-C) option, I would prefer one with a flip out screen (hence the selections above). Although, I acknowledge that I am not going to get one for a full frame camera in my price range, I would be ok with that for FF.

If you have any idea's on other old/cheap alternatives that would work for me, in particular dedicated astro cams, please let me know what else I could/should look at.

Thanks for reading and if you have any surplus older astro camera kit sitting around, drop us a PM and let me know how much you would like for it.

Cheers

Gav

I have the original QHY 8 which I simply don’t use anymore. PM if interested. Should add I am away from home for several weeks so won’t be able to get it to you soon.

On the other hand name your price plus postage and you can have it

RE: APS-C Sized Camera Found!

G'day All,

Well I may have secured myself a QHY 8 camera later in the year. Thanks seeker372011!

I think from memory this is an APS-C sensor, so I am now looking for a small sized chip camera for planetary, solar, guiding, and EAA.

Anybody got anything suitable they are looking to sell?

Such as:

- ASI178MC (cooled or non cooled)
- ASI224MC

Or anything else that is suitable for a 100ED and 50ED guidescope.

Cheers

Gav

Yes, i have a non cooled ASI178MC sitting unused and wasted given that it confirmed I definitely prefer only visual and lack sufficient opportunity at cloudy home to actually master using it. Bought for $579 on the verge of covid shut-down in March 2020 from Sirius in Brisbane, but noted Bintel had it about the same time for 549. Given it is un-abused, as new with everything in box, stored in dehumidifier, does $300 (including post) sound fair?
However, I too am away, on vacation (with 2 scopes in tow hoping for clearer skies than last night’s first go) until mid August.

RE: Thanks everyone

G'day All,

Thanks to those members who have responded to my advert, either via the advert directly or through PM.

It looks like I have now found the cameras I need to start getting back into things again. But, won't be able to seal the deal until Mid August and September.

So I will leave this advert active until the deals are sealed!

Cheers

Still in the market for a cheapish astro camera

G'day everyone,

Well the QHY8 fell through, won't go into it (just disappointed)!

So I am still looking for a cheapish camera for DSO work.

Cameras I am interested in (or something similiar) include:

- Orion Starshoot Pro V2.0 (Colour or Mono)
- QHY8
- QHY 8 Pro
- Canon 5d mk II astro modified
- Canon 60d astro modified
- Canon 70d astro modified
- Canon 600d astro modified
- Nikon d610 astro modified
- Nikon d5300 astro modified

Don't have a lot to spend on this, so please no offers of an ASI2600 or anything too expensive.

Please see original wanted ad below.

Thanks

Gav

Hi Gav,

I might have something for you as a guiding/planetary camera combo.

I have a QHY5III-290C that I no longer need. It got sent off for warranty and I am having a replacement sent back to me. Don't have an ETA yet, I just sent them the return address details today, so I am hoping to have it back in the next week or two.

I have a QHY9 Mono with QHY FW and LRGB filters and a QHY8 Pro OSC. Both come with all cables and DC201. If matching your intent, make an offer on either. Photos available.

Hi Gav,

I recently bought a ZWO ASI2600MC and my old QHY8 is redundant.
No idea how much these go for. Does $400, including postage sounds ok?

Thanks for the responses/offers, I have replied to all via PM.

Apologies I am still away from home until the end of this week, and have limited internet whilst away.
