Hi Gerald,

How easy is this camera to use? and Does it come with written instructions?

I am brand new to astrophotograpy, and my request for some info, in 'Beginners Start Here' went unanswered.

If it isn't too complicated to operate I may make an offer via PM. I am also in the market for anything else to get me started in A/Ph.

Cheers,
John.

John,
I am sure that there are plenty of cameras out there much more difficult than this one, It is a great starter, and maybe even if you were not too far away you could get some "hands on".
The whole CCD thing is a steep curve, but there is plenty of help here, notwithstanding your first unanswered request.

Hi Gerald,

I'm sorry I have not sent that PM yet. I am still looking for a suitable lap top, and have spent much time looking through this forum at recent postings in an effort to gain some knowledge on the entire subject of a/photography, and to find other stuff I may be able to use.

I live near Maryborough, so a bit far away to come to Bris for a hands on demo as suggested by Gary, but I will call into my friendly camera shop next time I am in town and pop a few questions at him.

I would really like to find a nice 300D EOS for around $500 mark. Anyone out there with offers?

Cheers,
John.

John,
I'm not sure the average camera guy would know much about the MX7C, its a real Astronomical CCD camera. I've been using one for the last few years and can only say it is a joy to use.... no issues; simple and very, very effective.
There are other users in Oz who I'm sure would only be to pleased to help you along the learning curve.

Plus, while a DSLR may be a good starter, you still need a guidescope and guide camera, so the $500 or so you think you are spending actually gravitates towards the cost of the MX7C anyway.

Thanks Gary,

Does that mean that the MX7C is a complete unit? Just plug in and go, so to speak?

What about programs and such?

BTW Merlin's right. The camera guy couldn't help a bit.

Cheers,
John.

Hey Gerald,

I note that you have not yet responded to my posts. Are you still interested in selling?

Cheers,

Hi John,
as far as I can see it should be plug and play. Yes the learning curve is steep, but it is the same with any form of imaging, and really that is part of the fun.
From what Gerald has described it should work straight off. Perhaps the only item that isn't listed is the software, but I am sure they come with software regardless.
Perhaps allow Gerald to get up and running again, and PM him.
Gary

Hi Guys,

Sorry to learn that Gerald has been unwell.

I forwarded a PM with an offer, and wished him a quick recovery. I told him to take his time as I have plenty of it and a lot to learn. There is no rush.

Cheers all,
John.
