Astronomy legend dies at 97

Frank Bateson died today at 97 years young. I didn't have much to do with him except during my short lived variable star phase when he personally replied to my enquiries. Astronomy and the world in general has lost a great, passionate individual.

That is sad news. May he find peace in the heavenly stars. It appears he led a very rich, full and interesting life – a unique character.

With deep condolences to those he left behind.

I have a paper written by him in 1976 on the observation of variable stars.
It was so well written it made it very easy to get started in variable star observation.

A truly inspiring man.
