NGC300 Au Naturale LRGB, Ha, O3

I started this image (and imaging) in this beginners forum, so will finish it here!

This forum is the best place to post your efforts and learn, doesn't matter at what skill level your at, there will always be help and support .


Stats:
30 X 300s LRGB
60 X 300s Ha & O3.

No Decon, no AI, no star reduction, believe me I tried, but those processes just didn't work.

Lots of data (over 20 hrs) allows 'soft stretching' of each channel and that consumes a lot of data.

However I believe detail, contrast and colour are revealed.

And yes, plenty of saturation...cause I like it!

Looks great. The hours paid off. Very smooth background. The Ha brought up the nebs and the Oiii the star forming regions. Top shelf.

Hey Peter. I'd take a look at the histgram. Astrobin has a version you can access easily. The black point looks clipped at if I'm reading it right. I think this is creating quite a lot of contrast. Peter

Some good detail in this galaxy , which by the way is not an easy target
Well done for effort alone !!
I tend to agree with Peter_ 4059 , your backgrounds tend to looked a bit black clipped ( ink black ) which means your possibly losing detail and therefore dynamic range across the image ( Lost photons )
Clipping does eliminate noise but it also eliminates signal
I know I keep flogging Startools and your probably sick of hearing about it but one of the advantages of using Startools, it won’t clip your data during a Wipe or gradient removal and again during a stretch and re stretch it allocates the correct dynamic range to taste
I’d be too frustrated using a damn histogram or curve graph etc...
I promise I won’t talk about Startools anymore.... maybe once more

Hi Pete

The graph in Astrobin varies in usefulness depending on the target.
It is informative with nebula however is too small to be of much help with a galaxy.
I am quite willing to give you the necessary files in your chosen format to have a go!
