M83 Southern Pinwheel colour balanced

After taking advise from Rich (Richardo) and others ,tried steve cainstra's tutorial on lum balancing. i'm quite pleased how it turned out as the colours came out much better than i had expected.

consist of 23 x 3 minutes exposure at ISO 400 with the modded 300D through the C10 F4.7. Autoguided ED80 and Meade DSI II. Darks/flats subtracted.

cheers guys.

That is very nice work Eric. You have captured the colours nicely. The detail is excellent.

Looks like the guiding is spot-on too

Gorgeous image Eric - the galaxy is quite stunning, just "hanging" there is space. It really puts things into perspective when I see these island universes.

Cheers

Great shot eric, gives me something to aim for now, the next time I am out with the scope. Its amazing how little this galaxy needs to bring it up on a camera chip, all great.

How much light pollution do you have to dig through Eric from where you image?

Hi Eric,
top stuff, the colour balance on the object looks good!!
But as Paul commented, your background has just a tad green tinge to it on my monitor....
Try this..... go into PS, go to 'image/adjustments/color balance'... select the 'shadows' tick box in 'tone balance' section and decrease the Green channel slider just slightly till the green tinge drops out.
Doing this won't affect the nice balance you have with the object and overall image, just the background.
There are other ways to ensure you have a good neutral background, but this is a quick and dirty fix.
Other than that slight 'nit pick'.....
Very well done indeed

All the best
Rich

Hi guys thanks for your reply. Andrew, light pollution wise i wouldn't say it is terrible but quite bad. i live in the suburbs of melb about 30 mins drive from the city. there's no grass near my neck of the woods thats for sure.

i agree it does look kind of green couldn't see it until i turn my monitor up. thanks for the advise once again rich. heres a turned down version.

Hi Eric,
it's still quite green to the background and also there is a redish ring about the half way point out and around from the centre which is possibly some sort of light reflection effect from a filter/ corrector....
I tried lots of things just quickly with your jpg image to remove this... using PixInsight's 'background extraction routine' but found the ring remained. Also tried Gradient Exterminator and this didn't get rid of the ring either.
What I suggest is for you to start taking flat fields, this should get rid of any optical effect and flatten your background so things will be much even and neutral. Will make getting rid of light gradients much easier.

Sky flats are relatively easy to do... and if your handy enough, a light box will certainly be even better.

Always takes time to sort out issues with new gear, but I'm sure you will over come this little issue.
The object's colour itself looks great!!

All the best
Rich
