Gabriella nebula

Hi everyone,

as the severe weather persists along the East coast,

I had the opportunity to grab a break in the clouds last week,
(08/03/21), and turn the scope towards Eta Carina.

Wide field image of the Gabriella nebula.

Details as follows:

7 x 30 second exposures
ISO 6400
Modded Canon 1100D
No filters
Orion EON 110mm f6
Field flattener
Sykwatcher HEQ5 Pro
No guiding
Images captured in Astro Photography Tools
Stacked in Deep Sky Stacker

Great wide view Paul,
It does seem a little out of focus though.

Great effort for such short integration
Pity about the clouds rolling in
Well done !!

My recommendations for next time -
Double check your focus , this image does look a bit out focus
Drop your ISO to 1600 or 800 reduce brightness ( noise ) from that DSLR
Capture as many subs as you can ( the more the better)
Increase your subs times to 45sec or 60 sec unguided as long as stars are not trailing ( eggy or oval )
Take darks after your light frames ( same focus , same exposure time , same ISO as your subs ( just pop the cap on the end of the scope ) take at least 20 darks
Purchase Startools v1.7 and do some real processing with this powerful software. ( I can provide assistance with using this software )

So happy my old HEQ5 is up and running again ( she was a great mount and still is )

PHD2 Guiding is your next hurdle which I’m sure you will master without to many issues

Thanks Karl, Martin.

The comments re focus made me look back over the short
amount of subs that I had captured on this area.

I had started earlier on another subject, and focus was made with
the aid of a Batinov mask via Astro Photography Tools and live view.

After looking at subs taken before this area, and a few after, I am
now aware that there was dew starting to form on the lens during
this set.

Just another learning curve !

I`m still happy with the results.

Martin, I appreciate the comments and offer of help re Star Tools.

I have been going through your procedure sheets and attempting to
gain more skill.
