I was wrong.

One must admit to being wrong and congratulate the winner .
Last week I said we would get our desalinators, but no news of it last week at all from what I could gather . The ads pointed that way .
But today I heard on the news an obscure snippet that tenders are being called for, to tender for the construction of the desalinator at Kurnel . So I was wrong no desalinator announcement last week so congratulations Sydney Water Rate payers it must be nice to have a $1,500,000,000-00 desalinator in the wings .

With user pays I doubt that the rest of the State of New South Wales will have to contribute and if you do the sums water really won’t become that expensive and at least there will be a non Government body to supply it if they follow the user pay system to its ideological conclusion .

I can’t wait to see what the various folk putting in tenders are each going to use as power supply for their respective plants . The only system I really have had a look at was in Israel somewhere (I forgot to add it to my favorites so I can’t link it sorry) it was rather exciting as they used diesel motors to run theirs so maybe it won’t be nuclear after all . Just some more carbon it the air which we are doing something about anyways .

Mr Diesel invented his motor to run on canola oil not the nasty stuff so that could be a good idea.
I wonder how many rain water tanks that much money would buy? I must find out what the current price of a 10,000litre tank and how many a billion and a half will only get, and see how much money we can save with the desalinator plant …. rather than just criticizing the idea I should get behind it and move into the future as they say .
It’s just that a billion and a half for water seems a lot but it’s not that much when you think of all the rate payers and they get more from commercial premises so it should all work out. So one has to be positive and expect a happy outcome and that is what one gets .
I am in Sydney now so how views can change. And to at least include something on astronomy I report its clear here and although maybe light polluted it is not cloudy like up home, so its out with eq6,150sn and 80x400 for some fun .
Alex .

Alex, you are so -ve about this. Why would we run the plant on diesel when there is so much hot air put out by our pollies??? Surely we could just harness that and put it to good use, and every 3-4 years you get twice the capacity for free as the election comes around....

You have to be +ve about these things.... just think how cheap "fish n chips" will become with all the dead sealife just floating around waiting to be picked up..... I mean there must be thousands of +ve to their great plan....

Alex,

It is to me that you are never wrong when you write about stuff not contaminated by politics.

No one can write about such and ever be right.

Politics has no black and white. Politics is degrees of nuances. Want a yes = maybe. Want a no = maybe. Both of which depend on which way the wind blows - at the moment.

One of the most shallow occupations is that of a politician.

Thanks for the input Shredder I recon I can help out in the "hot air" department when I come to Sydney .
John I wish everyone held your view that I am right on "other matters" but in truth most things come down to personal belief built from ones background and education. My background and education makes me curious and suspicious so I tend to over analyse issues maybe .
It surprises me that there was so little mention in the "news" about the prospect of spending so much money, how it will be raised etc it and that given there is an election in the wings the opposition have not commented . That is a worry but its their show they see it different I guess. No doubt they must have said something if its State funds involved, but how do you keep an eye on what the pollies are doing all the time..even when you have them before you it can be hard to work out what they are really up to .
Still like me, being more interested in other things so is the situation with most people .. who needs to hear about it, who cares about it?? A magnificent selling job really but I bet the power supply ends up not being diesel .. there is really only one option when you think how the planet is being warmed by humans .
Funny under a clear sky I dont care what they do really and feel more relaxed and laugh about the way public opinion is manipulated. And we should not be hard on our pollies after all we allow them to do what they do and in that respect we get what we allow .

Well in the absence of a clear sky I went looking for the news on the calling for tenders.. none can be found.. oh there is important stuff on film stars and sports and drugs. On the boards site it said details would not be released mmm what is going on? Have tenders been called for or did I dream it... one would think the issue could come up given there is an election soon.
I am not a suspicious person really but it is a worry personaly that I cant find information on the desalinator proposal ...
If anyone has any links I would be greatful to be advised where I can look.
Desalination has always interested me because of an interest in sailing. Politics does not interest me because I avoid reality.
