Jupiter this morning, 3rd March 2007

This was the first night of observing from our new (temporary) rental house in south-east Canberra, actually just over the border into NSW in a housing estate called Jerrabomberra.

Seeing was not great, all over the place with some periods of nice seeing (maybe 7/10) and some poor seeing of 3/10.

I've processed one of the images at random, but it came out ok so I'm posting it. I'll post some more images later.

Details:

Scope: http://www.acquerra.com.au/astro/lexx.html

capture: 1 minute each of R,G,B @ 38fps

I've reworked my capture software, now I don't lose any frames cause the hard disk can't keep up - I capture into a ramdisk now and have a separate program that streams that to hard disk. It's made a *big* difference at these high framerates - 38fps @ 640x480x16 = 23Mb/sec sustained write, too much for my poor laptop drive. But if I write into a ramdisk then it's all good.

cheers, Bird

Ok, here's another one, probably the best result from the night. I left it at the 150% size I use for processing...

cheers, Bird

Thanks, yes the channels are out of alignment cause of the long capture (3 minutes). They're aligned in the centre of the image though.

cheers, Bird
