Random perversity :(

well its clear;

not only is it an unexpectedly clear night, its a Friday..I can stay up late...

its not too hot not too cold .its in the Goldilocks zone...

the Rosette was just hanging up there waiting to be imaged....

my polar alignment was sweet..I was all set to go....
and what happens?
my mount wont fire up!Nothing happens when I plug power in. Nothing. Nada.
Not a battery problem-I tried both my battery packs, both are fully charged
Cant see what's wrong
I'm stuffed big time!

just emailed Celestron support-don't know if and when they will get back..in the meantime I'm essentially without my main scope

isnt astronomy wonderful
?

well at least I have a grab and go my ETX-but its not the same!

sorry just sharing my frustration!

The one night I got the new eq6 out there batteries in the illuminated reticle were flat with no spares (I have 6 spares now) but it comes from not being able to get out there much..once buy some and the following night back in business..lately you dont get a second night where its ok.
Oh well had a good run there for a while.

Bummer Narayan!

I hope there isn't some time induced bug in the CG-5... that's the second one I've heard of doing that in the last couple of weeks. I haven't had the opportunity to play with mine due to clouds...

I hope you get it sorted soon!

Al.

Oh, the computer bug. That's planned obsolescence for you.

I hope the Celestron people give you some solution soon.

Cheers,

Brian.

Bummer mate, why not ring them and ask for an extension to the warranty on compassionate grounds, surely a large company like this could at least consider fixing their product, and if they did you could sing their praises from every rooftop and the goodwill they would generate would be more than worth the few minutes they take to fix it

I'll cross my eyes for you also, the last thing any of us needs is faulty equipment. Btw, the rain destroyed any chance for Linden tonight

I got struck last night . New EQ would not light up. Tried everything but no go blamed the battery, the lead, got polar while I thought about it but gave up put it all away. Turned to an old mount same problem so finally realised the leads I was using were set aside for repair months ago.Dug out the one that came with and beep..All outside again, got a good polar align and then mucked it up. At 4.00 am I got about ten shots thru the 70/300 lens and stacked them before I fell down. But I could not waste such a night it was clear as .

When you get the gear out near every night month in month out then hit a run of months on end without action you er I certainly lose your edge. I made many oversights could not get it together at all could not find stuff as well. Had a excellent run with the 12 inch however which probably would not have been used if the mount fired up in the first place. So its an ill wind etc.
Raining here now.

glad you it worked out eventually for you Alex

as for my problem-the Internet came through..a couple of people-both at Cloudy Nights and also at the yahoo group made some simple and similar suggestions-I tried two and struck pay dirt on my second attempt..mount now working-of course cloud cover is 100% so situation normal

boy it was a relief!

I will write up the collective wisdom-the suggestions that were made- and offer it to Mike(iceman) as an article for IIS should he be interested
