Scope Case?

Hi All,

I came accross this add on ebay for cooler cases, how suitable is this for storing a telescope? Particularly the LX90.

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/70L-Orange-Co...QQcmdZViewItem

I was thinking of getting one from "The warehouse" or Supa Cheap. But then I saw these. I was concerned about how the usual plastic storage bins from departments stores would not handle heat well and maybe go brittle.

I wanted to do something like this with wheels and strong locks.

The storage box used in this one looks more durable, not sure where to find one in Australia.

Regards

Protect your investment get a custom made case, for my LX I thought the cost to make one by a professional was well worth it considering the price, weight and fragility of the scope.....$350-500 price range

Fahim,
I agree, if you're going to buy a case for your precious scope get a good one. Here's a link to a Aussie company, that makes cases for everything.

Try Bunnings Warehouse..I use a sturdy plastic dividercase for my EP's which does the job well..and they do have a range of toolboxes on wheels which might be worth a look at..or a large metal toolbox and simply fit castors and a handle!

Do you really need a case? It can travel fine in a car seat and mine lives on a waist level shelf in a wardrobe when not in use. If you don't have a particular need for the case, it's unnecessary bulk and cost.

For ~550$ I can get a Pelican 1650 case brand new in Australia. That is my long term plan, but i need a short term solution.
Astronut (there are two of you) but I have submitted a quote request to TPG.
I specified the telescope and the measurements of the Meade box it came in.

Beren who built that for you and do they have a website. What was the cost?

I don't think you'll fit an LX90 into a Pelican 1650 Fahim.

A local Perth business fabricated it for me, Protective cases http://www.protectivecases.com.au/ {sites under construction }. Terrific to deal with but your best finding someone near you so you can take your scope in and get all the measurments etc figured out. From memory it cost $430.

Fahim,
If you're in Sydney, you might want to try Samuelson Cases. http://www.samuelsoncases.com.au.

[Those cooler cases you mentioned in your original post don't look too bad but I'd replace the hinges and closures as they look a little flimsy.]

I checked out the LX90 groups and apparently the scope will fit into a 1650 case but it would be better of in a 1660. As it gives room for accessories.
As shown here.

Goff thanks for the link, I will give them a call on Monday. The cooler boxes do look sturdy and they are insulated to keep things cool. I am not sure if keeping the scope cool is a good thing or not. However you are correct the hinges/latches to need to be replaced.

I am keeping the scope as seen in the photo above, I will leave it this way till I get a case. I will however see about getting a dust cover for it. Not sure what the best material would be any suggestions? Or is there already one sold locally that would do the job.
