Something going on with my DMK

How can I tell if my DMK is working or not.

I have a sneaky suspicion it is "broken". I have tried two different PCMCIA firewire cardbus cards and two differnt laptops and I still can't get the damn thing working.

The message I get when I try to update the driver is "This device cannot start. Code 10" Does anyone have any ideas?

Has it suffered any physical damage prior to this Paul?
Have you tried it with a different cable?

What's changed? Has it been working before?

I'd contact Stefan at TIS - their support is generally very good.

Ouch – so sorry to hear that Paul. A search on Google shows this error message for both USB and Firewire external HDD’s. One person suggested it was because the external device wasn’t getting enough power.

Are you still using the external mains power adapter to power the Firewire PCMCIA card – daft question as I’m sure you are, but I thought I would ask anyhow?

Are you starting and connecting in the same sequence?

Yep it's worked before and I haven't changed anything. No drops, swapped cables around, still using the external mains belkin hub, same connection routine. Basically the same setup as before. After 8 %^&*^ hours and a new PCMCIA card later (which I spent 4 hours trying to get to work and will be going back (*&%$%&*) ) I plugged the old firewire card back in and it worked.

I've contacted Stefan Mike and we're trying to sus it out.

It seems that these add on IEEE1394 Firewire devices are quite variable in how they perform in a variety of real life systems?

On Monday night, I only had a 12VDC 1A mains adapter plugged into the PCMCIA card and it all worked fine, even after inserting the card after I had already booted the notebook computer – something which had previously not worked when testing in the comfort of our study.

I think It's about time I had a custom built laptop. This swapping cards in and out for firewire and internet connection and using usb to older style connection(serial and parallel) conversion cables (can you still get a serial connector for a laptop now??? ) low RAM, not having a dedicated graphics card etc is starting to get frustrating.

Maybe we need more rain

At least do us a favour and buy it from a catchment area.
