The John Tebbut Observatory at Windsor is very interesting. It's the one on our $100 note.
Now that is very difficult for some, personally I have forgotten what a $100.00 note actually looks like, so after a lengthy search, I came up with the image below, for others who are financially challenged like me
I'm more intersted in who Miss or Mrs Specimen is, and what did she do to get her face on our C note. I don't remember her being mentioned in History class.
I will be staying in Richmond from the 25th Feb to 22 March at the Sebel.
Is there anything on in the Richmond/Windsor area that I might attend?
Mike
I assume you mean in NSW...we have a Richmond in Vic, which is also very close to Windsor (part of same suburb). Otherwise, you could have gone to the ASV meeting on the second Wednesday of the month. Why do they have to reuse so many place names....street names, in neighbouring suburbs, are worse I guess.
OOO, I believe that all states have a town named Richmond. Whether or not any other town names share such privilege I know not.
I'm assuming (possibly on shaky foundations) that Mike did indeed make reference to one of the five towns of the Macquarie region of NSW. The clue, of course, was his reference to 'The Base' which I'm guessing refers to RAAF Richmond.
Some twenty or twenty-five years ago I attended the observatory mentioned expecting to be able to 'have a look around'. My wife and two children were with me at the time which made things a wee bit more embarrassing. There was no one there as far as we could see and then, fortuitously, a rather dapper gentleman exited one of the buildings doors and informed us, politely but sternly, that the estate was private property. We, me as red faced as a lobster, beat a hasty retreat.
Indeed, I did refer to RAAF Richmond, NW of Sydney.
Sorry that I have not responded before now, but I have been extremely busy, even over the weekend.
I was working at the observatory from 6am Saturday.
OMG a Richmond and Windsor in Victoria as well, WOW.
Greg, A Wednesday may be great, I should be able to use a vehicle during the week, weekends are a different matter. Too many golfers in my team staying there.
I look forward to visiting your meeting.
Yeh, thats the trouble with the Brits populating the World, they all left places they hated and then named towns they settled after the places they left.
Go figure.
