Hi all,
It`s been awhile since I posted any deepsky shots, been too busy chasing that dirty snowball down south....with some luck weather permitting...
Its been fairly crappy since the new year with only a few nights worth pulling out the gear...
Done this on the 10th of Janurary but only just got around to processing it.
Pic is a stack of 10x5min with 6x2min and 5x30sec to help mask the bright core...Done with my 6" f/5.6 newt with my new Coma corrector...and canon 300d. Seeing was not too bad maybe 7/10.
Quiet happy with the results.... though the scope needs better collimation as the stars in the lower left are not very round..
uploaded a higher rez version on my website in the latest section...will finish that site oneday..
Anyways CS
Gary
Very nice shot that. I love the Running Man Neb,probably the best named of the lot. Hope to see lots more. At the moment i can't save fast enough!lol.
Cheers mate,
Duncan
What I find interesting (and would like some comments from others who may know the answer) is the blue halo around Iota Orionis. I had a similar effect with an APO and was thinking a touch of chromatic aberration, but this pic shows it with a reflector, so what's going on?
Thanks Mike, Duncan, Paul and Geoff...for the kind commets!!!!!
I would say with refractors it would be CA but with reflectors it would be defraction from the secondary obstruction..So the halo will show a similar color to the star while the refractor with some CA would show that blue/violet tinge halo...
By the way whats the GOD feature?
Cheers Gary
I was hoping somebody would ask that . If you look at the top region of M42 (the inner rim between the red and the lighter colour) you're supposed to be able to see the word "GOD" written in capital letters. Need an eye of faith I guess. Also interesting that it is in English rather than (say) Italian.

Top stuff Gary, this is an excellent rendition of our most image object.
Beautiful resolution and colours.
Pin point stars to the edge.
The corrector with your home made scope is doing wonders!!
Thanks for the replies guys...
I am quiet happy with the final pic...thought my focus might have been a bit off when previewing it on the camera. but on the big screen it looked good..
Now for some nice clear and steady skies!!!

Hi Garyh,
Very nice indeed, hard to improve on, Im looking to see what Theo comes up with using the QHY8 by comparison to this picture, great picture youve got there with the EOS300D (modded).
