IIS website occasionally unavailable?

I wonder if anyone else experiences this: From time to time, and for no obvious reason, my web browser cannot resolve the DNS for IIS. And a few days later - again for no apparent reason, it becomes available again.

The browser I am using is Chrome in a Win10 environment. I've recently installed Opera and whenever IIS is not accessible on Chrome, I am able to access it in Opera. So the issue is not with my router. It seems to be Chrome-specific.

Is it somehow related to IIS's site not having current certificates? Could that be it? Coupled perhaps with some proxy server config issue in Chrome?

Anyone else experienced this?

I also use Chrome and W10 and have never had an issue , I visit daily to satisfy my astronomy itch .

Likewise, I have also found access reliable lately.

Your issue won't be related to site certificates as iceinspace only requires
http not https.

If you are using an ADSL connection, sometimes a non-optimal MTU
setting can result in similar quirkiness. Conferring with your ISP and
setting the MTU to the number of bytes they recommend is the
prescription in that instance.

Or it could be due to some entirely different problem. I gather you can
access other sites when you can't access iceinspace? Sometimes
you will find that there will be a handful of sites you can't reach.

Entering the URL and then pressing SHIFT-ENTER will circumvent
the cache on many browers forcing it to do a fresh fetch. It may not
be a cure but it can sometimes tell you a little more.

The next time it happens to you, it can be instructive to try entering that
IP address into the brower's URL input field and see if you can still access
the site that way, thus circumventing the DNS lookup.

I too have had transient issues with page load but no significant drop out such as DNS. Maybe one in the past 6 months. Recently more issues with time outs during page loading and client side code. Nothing dramatic though.

Windows are notorious for unreliability (in my opinion at least). I recently experienced internet non-connectivity issues on my PC and everything I tried to fix it didn't work. So the only option I was left with was a Windows refresh. It was sort of a blessing in disguise as it wiped clean a lot of junk on my machine but it also meant I had to reinstall all the programs I wanted to continue to use. Anyway it's a last resort option, but will almost always fix whatever issue you're experiencing.

Hi Gary. Well, it was worth a try. IIS disappeared again last night after a brief return of a day. I tried both the IP address you mentioned and the SHIFT+EnTER but to no avail. Since I can access IIS via Opera, it is more a puzzle than a problem.

I know IIS and IE do not get on at all. I cannot get any images to load, but if I go to Firefox, all works well. Just another minus for MicroCrap software...
