Prawn Nebula 6.5 hours some colour

I have been experimenting and trying to get everything set up still so much to do...lots of little things..failed inverter, mount not doing exactly what I expect but I have managed about 6.5 hours all up and I am sorry I cant tell you the exact spread but I limited exposures to 2 minutes for everything.
Gain was around 240 for everything really but I cant be specific cause I still have to make a system to record all this better.
I probably should look at this again tomorrow but as I have been playing with this all day in photoshop and gimp I post it before the thing wears out
And looking at it here shows up problems which for some reason I don't seem to pick up on when looking on the lappy

Oops, sorry, just looked again and saw your Photoshop/GIMP comment. As difficult as PixInsight is to get your head around, it really does narrow band processing well.

Colour is great! Something just looks generally off about the pic however? Like extreme noise has been smoothed over or something

Logan I was too long at the wheeland you are right now that I look at it.
The last weeks effort has been more about getting things working and learning stuff and today was get to know photo shop.
I made a wrong move trying to get smaller stars by using erode in Gimp and it did not work.
Here is another the same but different.
And I forgot to say it was my daughter who took care of the colour..

I now have so many Prawn frames it is not funny..various stacks and stacks of stacks.

I have a list of things to do better from basic set up of gear to processing and file management and organisation as well as attach the focuser and work out how to use the plate solving software.

I think this one is better noise wise but I have not worked out figures for gain and have not used darks or flats..there are so many aspects to do better.
But I have worked out PoleMaster, PHD such that it does guide (could be much better however) got a planetarium but still not in sync with mount...well there is more but I am definetly getting somewhere...

Thank goodness the clouds have rolled in so I can go to bed without feeling guilty for not doing more tonight...I have been at it all day all night for a while now.

It looks so much brighter on here..like the earlier ones where the red was over the top when I see it here it is harsher than I see it on the lappy.
Anyways that's not an excuse I will sort it out in time. Looks real pale on the lappy so I want to see how it looks here

There is so much for me to learn.
I have avoided colour because of my colour blindness but this morning set out to learn all I can...and already I know that I know so little about the science...that is changing.

And I have started today somewhat less tired and so have started learning all I can about star tools which I want to get under my belt before I go to pixinsite.
My brain feels like it is starting to work a little better and it seems to be comprehending more.
So the experience is most positive.
I think because things seem to take more effort as you get old or manage a disability you (I☺) become more lazy ....I am determined to turn this around.

I feel like I have set out on an ocean voyage in an unprepared boat patching it to keep afloat and ignorant as to how hopelessly unprepared I was when I started.
And so I must patch and work hard to stay afloat.
I can see thousands of hours of work ahead of me which grows as I learn more.
I realise my images are primative and must appear like finger painting to the informed but I will get better.
There is so much to do...the mount needs work to get better performance, the optics need adjustement, ....oh the list.
The whole thing is bringing back my perfectionist thing that I spent decades to surpress.
But I think I can balance its application to my hobby with interaction with humans in my world...Perfection will be kept to astronomy and in the world of humans I will enjoy being slack and non judgemental.
"She will be right mate".."close enough is good enough"..."its only a proto type"
"No one is perfect"...

Your comments resonate with me Alex, six months ago I didn't own a telescope, the learning curve has been near vertical & what lies ahead seems mind boggling. Your level of commitment & transparency in these forums has been an inspiration to me personally.

Any chance you could upload just the raw combination without anything applied just a stretch? i feel like that would look nicer than what you have here, because less is more in noise reduction!!! What you have done here is smooth the entire image over and pretty much get rid of all the detail.

Thank you for your kind words.

I am proof that even an old mug like me can learn enough to obtain some pleasing results.

Astronomy has given me so much and has saved me a few times when everything seemed just too much.

I started into astronomy to get over the loss of all I owned due to bush fire followed closely by the death of my guitar playing mate...bitten by a spider when he visited after the fire...it is his words that are my signature here.

And I remember those words when ever faced with difficulty...you really can make anything happen when you go for it.

We have a wonderful group here and the site sees very very few arguements.

And if we get a bully I take it upon myself to help them become nice.

Hi Alex, I've made up a simple Word document that lists the details of my captures, what it is, when it was taken, moon phase, capture details, exact coordinates, camera rotation, etc, etc. What I do is save this document with the relevant info in the same folder as my images. That way I always know what everything is when I come back to it in the future
I normally fill it in when my image run is starting while waiting for the first tester image to be done.

Has saved me a few times from scratching my head with what something is

I think I still have your address in my messages and I have just purchased my first USB stick...I am really getting wired...Still a hermit but filling in the gaps left over twenty years...actually I went bush in 1996...anyways I could put all the data on that if you like and post it down.
The problem with it is some is not labled as the the filter...
One batch was up one way and I found the filter wheel should be ritated to get better mount clearance and rotated the camera...so some are upside down when related to the others.
Deep Sky Stacker did not mind which is great...
Yesterday I stacked the lot all at once ...everything in one stack and it worked...I have yet to process it...I just wanted to see what it produced and had in mind using it as a multi detailed luminance...
Practicing star tools all day until I get it working for me...actually just put it on the desk top so here I am processing on both the lappy and the desk top so I can learn twice as fast...

Anyways I need to figure how to copy to the USB...wait I did it with the startools licience fro lappy to desktop who I think I will name pappy...lappy and pappy.

Anyways if you like I could let you have any good data I get if you want to develop your skills.
