An Anonymous Mountain in Puppis

Hi Folks,

Poking around Galaxy map I found this cool mountain shaped, Ha rich object near NGC 2451 and ó Pup. So I thought I'd have a go at imaging it.

No idea what it is or how to properly ID it - so would welcome input on this. Sky Safari 5 pro suggests IREC (InfraRed Excess Clouds) 374 Dark Nebula...

It's dim though, this is 3.5 hrs 5nm Ha already.
Will have to test to see if there's any O3 or S2 present.

Anyway - thought some may find it interesting to see something different!

Big (noisy) one HERE

Well blow me down, guess who was gunna start on that same thing after full moon??? I couldnt recall an image of it before and a search showed very few, so thought, might have a go....and your result confirms it to be a most worthwhile subject. Nice

Wow.

A really interesting object. Now on my hit list.

As for how to capture more data , you need to up photon capture rate = Bigger 'scope

Lol, great minds think alike hey Mikey Seriously though - with your mighty FOV it should be very cool

Personally - I've only just recovered from gathering 8 bl*%dy panels of NB data on the Seagull - still have to assemple it all

Cool Peter, give it some mega photons!

As to a bigger scope, well I have an RC8, but the Moonlite focuser I ordered has so far been from USA>Melbourne (wrong address)>USA>AUSTRIA (Wrong country!) > ? I may see it by Christmas - it's probably racked up more frequent flyer points than any other item on this forum already.

Yes another different one Andy, you must be trawling thru all those catalogues!

Ah I see you're doing the Seagull too, more great minds at work 😁

Your pixel scale is very large, so now i see why youre having to do so many panels! Must be fun

Brilliant! It looks reminiscent of the Great Wave by Hokusai. That would make sense for an object in Argo.

Ok I give up.

...anyone know what the co-ordinates of this puppy are?...maybe even a catalog number?

SkyX and computer so far say "no"

It’s a fascinating Ha object Andy! It does look as if it’ll be relatively weak in OIII and SII but I’d be happy to be proven wrong

Great find! SII and OIII might be interesting, but it's a good image in Ha alone.
