autoguiding with autostar/LPI

I'm trying to get an autoguiding thing happening with the LPI & autostar. Got Autostar on the laptop, everything plugged in, but when i go to set it up using the 'TELESCOPE/PROTOCOL/AUTOSTAR VIA COMM.PORT" path, I get a 'cannot open comm.1' box. So its not establishing contact via the comm.port.What I'm doing works fine on the desktop but its giving me frownlines trying to get it going on the laptop. Any suggestions would be most welcome....

Try selecting a different comport. I seem to recall reading that using com1 or 2 may not work at times.

Goto to the hardware device menu and see what comm ports are active on you laptop & chose one of them..
In WinXP it is...
Control Panel....System... Hardware Tab....Device Manager Button.... Click on Poorts (COM & LPT).
What ever Com ports are active will show up here.
I think Device Mamager is an icon in the Control Panel for Win98/Me.

Hope this helps

You should also check that the com port speed is set to 9600 (bits per second), 8 (bits), None (no parity) 1 (stop bit) . as required in the Autostar documentation. (Page 34,5 in my Autostar manual).
