First Light and first image of 2007

Hi Guys,

Gave the brightest deep space object a go with my new C10NGT f4.7 last night with the unmodded 350D. Autoguide with ED80 + Meade DSI II. Used Baader MPCC and UHCS filter.

Consist of 10x10sec, 10x20sec, 10x40sec, 10x1minute, 5x2minute, 5x8minute all ISO 800. There were no issues with weight on the EQ6 even with the 8 minute exposure. I think the autoguiding helped. I was just about to image my 3mins and 5 minutes then the clouds suddenly came so i couldnt get any mid exposure shots.

Anyway hope you guys like it.

will you have a look at how sharp those stars are!!!

and the amount of detail in the neb!

you have to be happy with that new scope, as you said, it was nicely collimated etc.

gee.....let me think....taken last night, posted at 5:13am.....hmmmmm...who has been a busy boy and stayed up most of the night processing to post a great result on IIS

not that any of us have ever done that

well done ezy..........i believe you should try out a canon 20da!!!

Nice Eric and a huge amount of work stacking all these different exposures but what a good result on the core- it's very nicely resolved indeed
well done

Amazing first image Eric,
Absolutely beautiful.
The sets of images for stacking (10x10sec, 10x20sec... etc) - is this a "trick of the trade"!!?? I mean, the quality of the image speaks for itself, but what part do the 10sec exposures play in the final outcome?
Sorry for the newbie question Eric, but I'm wondering if I should try similar techniques.
Cheers
Doug

Doug the shorter exposures work on images like this that have a bright core, otherwise the core Trapezium will just look like a ball of light.

This method is only used if there is an area that is overexposed like the M42 not something that you would do for a faint galaxy.

great image Eric.

Doug just to show you the difference with and without the shorter expsoures blended into the image.

Notice the core on both these images.

thanks doug, like what tony explained, i use small exposures for the core so it doesn't get bloated layered masking.

Here's a tutorial how to do it:
