An imaging challenge indeed! At least you won't have to worry about criticism.....except for were is it!

Skysafaris not perfect; have noticed some errors with double Stars etc ..out of date info..not to mention that it can freeze occasionally...apart from that ..I love it!

IC 2477 is a non-existent astronomical object listed in the New General Catalog described in the constellation of Leo. This object was written by Stephane Javelle on May 1, 1896 .

You will probably find it is what is now IC 2480 a 15.1 mag galaxy.
There is only 18 arc seconds separating the two objects.
Both objects were micrometrically measured by a M. Javelle at Nice observatory with a 30" refractor .
Looking at the Aladin image of IC 2477 there is nothing there, the nearest object is IC 2480
When the RNGC was published by Sulentic and Tift in 1977 which a lot of duplicates and non existent objects were removed, but at the same time they removed objects that were there,which has caused angst ever since for observers.
My biggest gripe is the addition of extra letters behind objects such as A B C etc which were not even in the original catalogues. For example say NGC 253A which can be no where near the main object.
The New General Catalogue (NGC)was published in 1895 and the two index catalogues (IC) published in 1905, with the IC catalogues merged in 1930
Apparently there are still quite a few errors and omissions in even the latest version NGC2000 by Roger Sinnott.
Steve Gottlieb NGC/IC Project and Dr. Wolfgang Steinicke Revised New General Catalogue and Index Catalogue, have published corrected versions of the NGC and can be found on line.

I got a great shot of it on my non-existent 200 mm Takahashi refractor and non-existent 16 Mp cooled camera (which is all housed in my non-existent dome at Hidden Creek).
