Comet McNaught (2006/P1) on Soho already?

Hi! I was looking at the SOHO LASCO/C3 image dated 2007/01/12 02:18 (http://sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov/data/...24/latest.html) and a bright object has appeared at the 11:00 position. Comet McNaught already?

Noel.

Andrew, it certainly looks like it. Check out the first image with that feature on it at http://sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov/data/...12_0142_c3.gif taken at 1:42 UT.

It is a very prominent feature in that first image. I looked at the one before (20070112_0042_c3.gif) (00:42 UT) to see if it was there, but I can only see it in my imagination. It would be good to see an image at 1:18 UT, but there isn't one listed on the list of recent images at http://sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov/data/...altime-c3.html .

Thanks Iceman!

I've lurked here on and off ever since IceInSpace first started. I've always enjoyed reading about other people's astronomy adventures, and have often gleaned useful information.

Re the comet, I can't wait to get a look at it with my own eyes instead of Soho's, though it is becoming quite impressive there. I just hope these clouds clear tomorrow or Monday evening!

Wishing you all clear skies for the Comet!

Unfortunately here where I am in Brisbane, skies were cloudy tonight. Maybe tomorrow will be different...

Soho is very impressive though!
