My kids think it looks like an angry red robot! To me it looks like an bipedal form looking at two stars in their right hand.
This is a 6 panel mosaic of Eta Carina using the 16"f3.6, and each panel is 30 x 1 minute subs through L, R G and B filters. Calibration, stacking and mosaic compilation all done in pixinsight, and because I used drizzle integration (probably unnecessarily) I now have a 1Gb image. Mild decon used on the luminance prior to combination. Photometric colour balance and arcsin stretch used on the RGB. Again, mild unsharp masking on the combined result and a bit of a saturation kick.

- constructive criticism welcomed, but I don't want to look at it a gain for a bit - it took three goes to get the mosaic work and I'm ready for a break from it...
Nice one Andrew, really looks lovely in straight RGB...that's about the same field of view I get in one shot with the AG12 and 16803
Mike
Bah. 9 micron pixels wasting all that lovely resolution. I think the camera and filters for a 16803 are worth more than my scope! I'd definitely like to see what this scope could do with a 16803 - the well depth on the 8083 chip seriously limits how deep I can go.

My browser seems to hang every time I click on the full res version, Andrew. Maybe I'm just not waiting long enough? I know that Astrobin has had problems with large images in the past...
That looks great! I have a lot of respect for people that do mosaics. I rarely have the patience.
Steve
I'm not sure I have either, but it's one of those things that when you've committed you might as well get right!

The sad thing is that now it's working so nicely I almost forget I've got it!

Lovely mosaic, with great fine detail.

Thanks a lot Mike and Trish, but I can't take too much credit for the colour balance as I did it more or less automatically using the G2V star matching script in pixinsight.

I think it's astrobin - I can't hit the full size one either.

Ha ha - me too, and my kids are pressuring me to have the name changed!

Thanks Andy! I can honestly say that although the raw data is courtesy of a fine set of optics, a lot of blood sweat and tears went into putting it together! I think I'll try a mosaic on M42 next...
