Saturn from this morning - 10th Jan

Hi all

Another long break between images, with christmas, holidays and bad weather in-between.

Here's an image of Saturn taking this morning at 2:40am local time. I'd been imaging since about 1:30am but had only captured rubbish with the seeing only 3/10. I closed down ICCapture and was going to pack up, but decided to have a look at the rising moon for a little while, and noticed the air had steadied a bit. I turned back to Saturn and noticed the seeing had improved dramatically, to about 6.5/10.

I captured a final avi of each channel which (not surprisngly) turned out to be the best for the night.

The transparency was not good however, and these avi's were captured at 15fps (1/15s exposure) with gain on full (1023). 400 frames from each channel were stacked to make up the final result. No crepe ring unfortunately, thanks for the poor transparency.

I was going to try and capture Jupiter before dawn, but noticed that Spica was right next to tree that blocks the East - I checked SNP and saw that Jupiter would be rising even further South than spica, so I had no hope of seeing it from where my EQ platform was currently setup. I'll move the platform tonight and go for Jupiter tomorrow morning.

I'm fairly happy with the final result considering I almost didn't get anything worth posting It's probably my best for the season, slightly better than my previous best from the 19th December.

It might be one of my last images taken with this imaging setup!

Thanks for looking.

Well done Mike

Nice colour and plenty of detail in the banding.

It's always good to capture the red/orange colour at the pole

Excellent image Mike - it's great to see these images from you and others, as the weather up here has not been too cooperative the last 6 to 8 weeks. Apart from bagging the odd photo of the heron nebula!

I admire your dedication too!

Cheers

Dennis
