LMC Reversed

Hi All

Two days ago i imaged the LMC and posted it here on IIS, my friend in Adelaide also imaged the LMC, but it was about a week prior to mine.

Now when you look at both images next to each other, they are totally reversed, "Why is it So".

The first image is mine from Ballarat
The next one is from my mate in Adelaide

Cheers Leon

You must be standing on your head in Ballarat

Through my binoculars, around midnight, I see it much like your friend in Adelaide.

What time were the images taken Leon? Could it be that one was taken in the early evening and the other taken in the morning. That could take into account the rotation. The images aren't reversed just rotated by the look of it (btw the lower image doesn't open up to a larger one for me ) If you rotate one image 180 deg they match.

Also what scope did you use and what scope did you friend use.

Thanks Paul, there were no scopes used, we both used 135mm lenses.
I took my image at about 2am, and i'm not sure about my mate. i do realise i can correct it by image rotation, but that is the way it can out of the camera.
Like you say, it is probably a time difference.

OK!!!
I've remembered something which might explain it.
When I opened an IP 'fits' file of my LMC pic in Photoshop, I'm sure it looked like your pic. It was in greyscale so I closed it and reopened the file in IP to save as a TIFF. Opened in IP, it was back to its normal orientation.
The .fits file generated by IP as a default save file is orientated at 180 degrees with respect to the camera view - I just checked.
Got to be down to that eh? Thats if you are working with the default .fits file that is!!
Cheers
Doug
