Celestron C8 Orange Tube 80s Good Condition

Hi All,

My beloved Celestron C8 Orange tube has sat unused in a closet for 5 Years. I purchased it through CloudyNights.com about 8 Years ago. I no longer get time due to lifestyle changes. After half-dozen 8in SCTs passed through my hands, I hung onto this one because it has amazing optics - I believe it is mid to late 80s build.

As can be seen in the photos, it was stored with a skylight filter lense on the Visual back and the metal cap on the front corrector, which did the job of protecting the optics. The visual back and skylight (infrared) filter will be included but the outside of the filter has a haze and spot - Cue Tips (cotton buds) and Windex should have this all good in minutes.

I examined the optics with a bright LED. The primary and secondary mirrors are good - some small amount of dust flecks and no problems with coatings I could see. The corrector (glass at front) does have three small spots (less than 1mm diameter). The scope should be taken to an astronomy shop for a professional clean asap (so that the spots on the corrector do not damage the coatings).

The scope is usable now but if professionally cleaned should be good for more years. I have adjusted the price to reflect the fact that whoever buys this scope should have it cleaned.

There is two small dings on the back-top of the tube (next to each other in the photo near the finder) and a scratch on the secondary adjustment cap at front (pictured). These cosmetic blemishes do not affect operation in any way. The rest of the scope and tube are in top condition (with only a few tiny hair size scratches - really the best condition orange tube C8 I have seen and I have always cared for it well).

There is no built-in dovetail on this tube - However, the rings and dovetail, hard case, finder scope, visual back, 2-to-1.25" adapter, skylight filter and objective metal cap are all included (as pictured) so all you need is a mount, diagonal and eyepieces and you are ready (I also have a nice WO dialectric diagonal I can sell for a low price). The duct tape you see on the tube is to protect it from marring when the rings are mounted - Under the tape is as good as the rest of the scope.

Whoever buys this scope will be very happy - I have seen more detail on Jupiter than many other scopes in its aperture range...

I am not keen to ship this scope to avoid any damage to optics - Local pickup in Hornsby area or I can deliver it to you in the Sydney Metro area.

$600
