For Leon: How's your polar/wedges' GOTO?

Hey there Leon (or anyone else with an LX200GPS and wedge)

Now that you have your LX & wedge set up, is it performing well for you? How's the alignment? Have you done a drift align yet? And... how's your GOTO work now?

I've just bought h0ughy's SuperWedge so that I could mount the scope in polar mode on the large field tripod I have rather than the other wedge I have, which is for when I get around to building an observatory.

I set it all up last night and managed a reasonably good p/a, but found that that GOTO was way off - like 2 or 3 degrees off. I'll work on it again before Lostock - hopefully the forecast rain and clouds will blow away before the end of next week. Mine used to be almost perfect in alt-az mode.

Also - English forks in equatorial mode are a tricky thing to slew aren't they? I'm constantly battling the handset's directional arrows to move it all in the direction I want it to go. The German mount I have on the 8" Newt is a piece of cake, to move where I want, in comparison.

Cheers mate!
Chris

Hi chris,

Well i hate to tell you mate, but i am still not polar aligned.

Its a verrrrryyyyy long story, but to give you an idea of what has caused this i'll keep it brief.

After, with lots of help from members on this site, i found out that i was pointing in the wrong direction to start with, and my angle was out by miles, you probably read about this in one of my posts.

Anyway the penny dropped, and i got all of that right, only to find that if i put the scope on the pier in the right direction, i wasn't able to close the observatory door, it actually stuck out by about 400mm.

Trust me, you dont want the story of how that happened, anyway the scope is still pearched on the pier in ALt mode, for the time being.

Cheers Leon
