New discovery with my CPC11"

Well I have discovered if all desert travellers are made to take a SCT with them they will never die of thirst..........
All they have to do is set up their telescope for a nights veiwing and place a cup.......er bucket under the corrector plate and then wait for the dripping dew to fill the cup/bucket.
Be warned that if you are anywhere near my veiwing spots, a pair of gumboots will be needed.

All jokes aside, I haven't purchased my Heater or dew shield yet......who would think you would need them in dec/Jan...............

Crazy weather.....drivin me nuts!!!

....congratulations John another's SCTer's initiation going by the book get those shields/heaters mate and drop by kmart and pick up a foam camping mat and duck tape for the interim

Ahhhh the expeirience, Whats the first thing you put on the scope after setting it up, no not the eyepeice its the.............I learnt the hard way, and 12V hairdryers will only go so far...........

Yup, That darn dew just got the best of me last night.................
What frustration
I finished up at about 2.30 after a battle with the corrector plate....
I kept having to cover the end of the scope up and wait for the plate to dry up a bit, but it was still horrible..............and I was no where near power to use a hair dryer etc.
I don't know how you SCT people put up with it !!

Anyway all the astro shops are closed, so a dew zapper and "real" hood will have to wait...........I am off to the shops to get a camping mat !!

I think I mentioned the dew shield in that last PM, John. I wasn't joking! Needed mine on and the dew heater going for a long session just last week.

I have a flexible shield but if I had to do it again, I'd get a solid one. Easier to attach solidly and will help a little with balance as the instrument is back heavy.

I really dont have to much of a problem with dew or even frost, believe it or not.

I always have a small 12' fan placed on a tripod so it can be moved in any direction, set it to low and it creates a mild breeze across the front of the lens, and or any telescope.

The fan runs as long as it takes to complete my nights work , never a problem, it dose a great job, and iv'e been doing this for years.

If extremely frosty, i use a old hair dryer on low heat with the same effect.

The air just has to blow across the front of the objective never really hitting the scope, or lens at all.

works every time.

Don't worry I know you weren't Joking..............$6 later I have my custom dew sheild

Now can anyone sugest anything for these rotten rainless clouds that have just rolled back in

Maybe if we all buy new rain coats and other rain gear they will go ...sortta like buying new astro gear sortta thing???
