Hiring Telescopes in Oz

Does anyone know of anywhere in Australia where you can hire telescopes.
Looking for a dob in the 14" range.

I know some Astro Soc' do if your a member, is there anywhere else that
anyone knows about?

do you mean to take home? i believe the magellan can be rented or something but youd have to use it there i believe.

Yes one he can take away with him Ving, the magellan just might be a lil
to big for him, dont you think? seriously...

This is for an a guy in the US who wants to come out for the Nov 2012 solar
eclipse. He would like to hire a scope he can use while he is here.

I haven't seen anywhere that hires scopes , I reckon the best bet would be corresponding with a Astronomical society in the area that will be visited and requesting whether a member would be willing to either share or loan his/her scope .Or there's the other option of visiting a private observatory http://www.quasarastronomy.com.au/places.htm

Hi Rob, I dont think I have ever heard of anyone hiring telescopes other than local societies as a service to members.
I think the insurance costs may be a bit steep for any commercial type of venture.

Thanks Beren and Ric,

Yes, the same here. Have never heard of scope hires outside of Astro
Societies. But I had to try. He has a 14" truss dob but would prefer
to save the freight charges of shipping out here from the US then back
again. I was going to suggest perhaps buying a 12" GSO or maybe a
16" LB. It could work out the same but less hassle and maybe arrange
a quick sale possible at the end of his trip.
