Orion's Sword from my new place

After moving house recently I was itching to get outside and try some imaging from my new garden. It has been a month (a whole lunar cycle ) since I was last able to get out at night, and I was having withdrawal symptoms.

I managed to snap a few images of Orion using the camera on the StarTracker. This pic shows Orion's sword. It is a crop from a 15 deg. wide field view. 19 x 64 sec, f 6.7, ISO 400. Stacked and processed in Iris. Stretched in Registax.

I feel much better now.

Still evaluating yet and getting my bearings. My view from the South through to the NW is more open with no trees. Good views from 25 deg. upwards. My view East however is light polluted. I have 2 street lights over the back fence, one to the NE and one to the SE . There is an area in the back garden where two bushes will block both lights at the same time, but if a breeze blows you will get an eyeful of street lights. Orion was smack bang between the two offending lights when I took the image and it turned out better than I expected. Maybe it's not all that bad.

Nice One Andrew

I was walking with the family along the main road a little after 8pm. You would have been shooting straight over my head if you were taking your shots then. Do you back onto the main road? Have you settled in yet? Perhaps I should wander over one night soon with some eyepieces.

That must have been you then. I didn't start imaging until after 9 pm, but we were driving back home just after 8 pm and I said to my wife "That looks like Andrew walking along back there". Were you pushing a stroller with everyone else trailing behind?

The garden does back onto the main road. When you wander over with your eyepieces I'll be able to open the 'secret' back gate to save you walking all the way around to the front of the house.

Yep - that was us. Secret gate hey - I like it....with that we are just over 5 mins walking time from each other.

Will probably be walking tonight as well so if you hear a couple of strollers, a dog, and a talkative 6 year old then pop your head over the fence and give us a wave. Will probably be the same time as last night.
