Adverts IIS homepage

When I'm logging in, I see popup adverts on the left of the homepage. These have recently been "Russian women online", "4 indicators of a pending heart attack", and "free chemist sample packs".

Is it just me, or am I being specifically targeted? I swear I've been deleting my cookies!

Haven't visited any of those sites,( also have garden sheds in the adverts too, not after one of those either.) Maybe they want me to buy a garden shed, get my chemist sample pack, collect my russian bride from the airport and then proceed to have 4 different heart attacks? I did go into the ad box just then and found it's run by Google, and have been able to opt out of their ads. Interesting.........

So I've just been into my Google account to check.....( to remain more anonymous to them, my account says I am a retired lady of 93 years of age,) so I can't for the life of me work out what they think I'm going to do with a Russian bride in said garden shed. Maybe they think the heart attack info and chemist samples are appropriate for someone in that demographic, thats understandable.

You can opt out of the targeted ads, based on your cookies.

They will, however, keep placing ads.

The only ads I see in the sidebar are for telescope gear, which I don't mind. I often click on the AEC ad just to have a look.

At least you have not made the same admission as one fella I saw (Inadvertently) did.

Complaining post on a web forum (Unrelated to the ad content) "Enough with the gambling and dating site ads please, my wife saw these and was not pleased"

I had a look on the homepage to see what pops up advertising wise for me. Power tools, just how I like it..

Sounds targeted.

If you are using Chrome (if you're not you should be!) I run Ad Blocker, blocks every annoying ad on all pages

I had this recently with them popping up on Youtube everywhere. It's Malware. Iobit Malware Fighter and BitDefender Malware Tool got rid of it.
I thought Youtube had sold out to the XXX industry and couldn't believe it. Then friends said they weren't having that problem.
I have no idea where I got it from either because I don't think I'd installed anything for a month.
I use FireFox, and had adware blockers running, and they were still highly visible. There would be at lest one per row of videos on the main youtube page. Really annoying.
These aren't based on browsing history, or I'd be seeing ads for guitars, cameras and telescopes. Not ***** extenders, and.... stuff.

In my case I am not getting any pop ups, just "Adchoices" ads.

Pity you can't chose "None" from adchoices (Well, you can, but I am currently fiddling to get PiHole adblocker working right)

Hmmm. I only see 100% astro retailers ads in the IIS side column, yet I have been browsing lots of garden sheds lately, not so much the Russian brides. I am seeing garden shed ads on other web sites but not IIS.

If it bothers you, the simple way is to use google chrome or firefox and open an incognito window. Deletes all cookies when you close the window.

You may like to try uBlock Origin, instead of Ad Block Plus.
Much better & uses way less resources.

&, I never see any adverts here or anywhere else.

Finally remembered what the issue with PiHole was. the first couple of google search links don't work each time. I had not had a chance to look at it and switched it off at the time as my wife complained that google searches stopped working.

It is only the first couple per search that don't work, they are the ads that have been paid to subvert the search function. Now I have realised that she can just come down a couple of links to the actual search results. If I whitelist the domains required to get those top links working it re enables all the annoying adchoices stuff on websites and defeats the point of it all.

So what you are saying is, that you use and abuse this site without contributing to its upkeep through ad placement

Benefit of the PiHole. It kills off the google ads and many others but the trader ads on here are not affected.

Better still, it knocks them off at a DNS lookup level so we consume less data, I am still testing but I think it has also knocks off the annoying "Noisy" web pages like the age website which pop up a video advert after a period reading a page.
