Gum 14 a work in progress

I was looking around for something new to image and thought of Gum 14. This is next to the Vela Supernova Remnant.

The joys of F3.8 mean you can get a decent image very quickly.

Looking very nice Greg but hey, Ha is the eeeeasy bit

...so don't stuff up the combine

with this sort of start, I wanna see a purler

Certainly looks good so far Greg. One thing you might care to look at is HDR. I've found that it often has a dramatic effect on Ha images but you need a lot of signal.

yes Ha isn't that hard although round stars at F3.8 is a bit tricky.
So I was happy with that. I often don't get very good seeing to the south for some reason so I was pleased this turned out not bad. Colour is a future project once the clear skies return! I've got heaps of data collected on other objects to process in the meantime.

I was planning HaLRGB or HaRGB, What do you think? Its usually seen as a mostly red image but there are some lovely stars in that field so HaRGB may be the go.

How do you do that? A series of different exposures from short to long?

Just apply HDR toning to the image and blend the original and HDR toned version to taste. Doesn't work for every image but it does for some

Yeah I should watch that again as the first time I watched it my version of Photoshop did not have that tool. Its an interesting tool. PixInsight probably does the HDR thing best though.

Those dark thready bits are beautifully photographed. At first glance, Gum 15 seems a bit featureless, but on closer examination, it is full of tiny disparate details, both bright and dark. An image to hunt about in for ages. Well done!

Thanks Mike. Its also not that solid so a colour version should show some nice star fields in amongst the nebula.
