Orion - First attempt w/ Rebel XTi

Ok... FINALLY got some clear sky, it's been raining up here for weeks which is why you all had to see pictures of churches and pumpkins.

I got the 6" out and snapped a few shots last night since this was the first chance I had. Of course, Orion was near the top of the list. I tried an image of Andromeda and the Pleiades, but the Orion pics worked out the best.

Here's one I took with a 50" exposure at ISO800. I did some post-processing in photoshop to cut down the noise.

Orion : Non stacked ~200k

Once I got back in I downloaded deepskystacker that some people recommended around here and gave it a shot. I basically threw in the 5 best images I had and was surprised at the result. This is the first time I ever used a stacking program, or for that matter took digital astrophotos at all. Very pleased with the results. As you can see from close in views, the focus was a bit off since there are small donuts instead of pinpoints, but overall not too bad for a first try.

Orion : Stacked ~400k

Enjoy! Hopefully my skills will improve a bit with more opportunities at a clear sky. I hosted the images on my own webspace since I could make em slightly bigger than allowed here. hehe

Hi TK, That is a very nice image for your first attempt, I would be very proud of it. You are definitely on your way

Some of my first attempts were real burnt out fuzzy blobs

Looking forward to seeing more

Nice one TK,

I had a little play with you image because I could see the histogram was clipped making it a very dark image...I adjusted the curves and this is what come out.

Hope you like it.

Oooooohhhh... yes! That's a considerable change there. Send me a private message or something and tell me how you knew to do that. I'm very much a newbie as far as the post-processing goes.
