A windblown Crab

My first image of the new year

10 x 20 mins with QHY8 and RC8 on Crab Nebula. Guiding was rubbish - 1.5" RMS and peaks up to 3 or 4" - partly due to the wind, but also my mount is in need of some TLC with backlash.

Full res on Astrobin.

I'd like to try again and get more data and better guiding. But the weather gods may not allow that again this season the way things are going

Happy new year anyway!!

Regards,
Paul

I don't know much about it, but I think that's pretty good. The level of filamentary detail seems quite intricate for a fairly small object. So If that's the 'Meh' version, I'm looking forward to seeing the 'better' version!

Nice one! :-)

Top shelf work there, Mister Duck. Good structure in the nebula, well done.

I think that's excellent. Great detail given that it must be pretty low in the sky from your latitude.

Cheers

Steve

Thanks Steve. Yes, it peaks at about 33 degrees - just clearing a big gum tree to the north of our place

Yep that looks really good for a rather difficult object.

For a OSC and being so low to the horizon, excellent job! The structure is showing up nicely.

Well done. Nice detail showing.

The wind is being a real wrecker at the moment. We've had two beautiful clear nights where the dome roof looked like it was about to be torn asunder and the stars were terrified scribble as the scope bounced about. We gave up and ran away.
