Two-part mosaic of the Lobster Nebula

I recorded the data for this two-part mosaic of the Lobster Nebula way back in May 2016. I’m a bit slow finding the enthusiasm to process my data. It is a good time to get on top of the back log of data now that it is nearly always cloudy. Hopefully the image is OK.

Technical details:

NGC 6357 from suburban Sydney, TV NPI 127is at f/4.2, Astronomik 12-nm Ha and OIII filters, QSI683wsg camera.

Hi, Murray,

It's a beautiful image. The little "ice palace" in the middle was a give-away that it is the Lobster, but I sat staring at it for perhaps 10 minutes trying to match it up with our M1 Crab Nebula before I twigged.

I stand corrected. Of course the Crab Nebula is the SN Remnant in Taurus. This is an image of the Lobster Nebula.

Surely you jest sir? I think that you twigged in 10 micro-seconds, not 10 minutes.

My brain was hurting trying to resolve that as the Crab nebula, when I saw it.
I thought what telescope is this guy using to delve into the heart of the crab, even though it looked nothing like any image of the crab I had ever seen before, but then again there are lots of images taken today of familiar objects that look nothing like things I have ever seen before.
The NGC number, it really made up my mind.

Cheers

A very nice rendition. This nebula is one of the least photogenic nebulas and you have presented it in an interesting way.

Greg.

I would deserve a Nobel Prize if I knew how to produce an image of the Crab Nebula (Messier 1) of this quality using a puny 5 inch refactor. Also, I recall now that I decided that OIII was a waste of effort on this object and decided to concentrate on SII instead (as well as H alpha).

Sorry, I’m not on the ball and am trying to pull myself back into astro-imaging mode again. There are too many clouds here in Sydney at this time of year.

Ugly? Whaaaat? I don't think that I have seen any ugly object in the night sky other than light pollution.
