Galaxy NGC1365

NGC 1365, also known as the Great Barred Spiral Galaxy, is a barred spiral galaxy about 56 million light-years away in the constellation Fornax.

In February 2013, observations using the NuSTAR satellite have found out that the central supermassive black hole of NGC 1365, measured to be about 2 million solar masses in mass, is spinning at almost the speed of light.

Capture details: 411 x 30 seconds, GSO 10" F4 Newtonian, Baader MPCC MKIII, HEQ5 Pro unguided, Pentax K-5 over a couple of nights in the cloud gaps.

There are lots of fainter galaxies surrounding the area. Image is getting noisy as the night time temps climb here in the tropics.

Looks really nice Kevin, 411 subs must have taken a few hours to stack, well it would on my old XP machine.

Cheers

do you think you're going to devise a low tech cooling apparatus?

Thanks Bill. I start stacking when I go to bed and wake up with them done so it's not so bad.

Thanks Colin! Actually NGC1097 is next on my list. With longer subs too.

A friend gave me a 3D printed One Annette, but it's kind of heavy and bulky. I can't go any heavier with this mount. I probably won't go for cooling at this stage. I'd like an astro modified K-5 next for nebula.

Pleasing result. Lots of little things scattered about the field to add extra interest.

re cooling: taking the battery out of its compartment could also help or what do you think?
About 1 month ago, someone here on IIS posted it. Only cables then go into the open compartment. Looked like an easy DIY adaption.
Maybe it was even you who posted it? Can't remember. But I'm sure, Bojan replied in the thread, too, showing an off-the-shelf solution with a slightly less gain on cooling affect.

The battery on the K-5 runs cool as the camera draws very low current. In fact I can shoot most of the night on a single battery. I know my K-x runs hotter so removing the batteries from it would help. Not so much the K-5.

Thanks Mike. In time I'll try and get some deeper pics, but at the moment I'm a bit snap happy lol.
