Sculptor Galaxy

My latest. I expected more from it as it looked really good in the initial processing stages, it just didn't turn out as good as I expected in the end

Looks good to me Tim, colour is excellent and the Ha has worked a treat

Maybe just looks a tad soft?...seeing or focus perhaps? Still looks pretty good though well done

Yes, looks good to me too, apart from slight softness.

I would guess that the softness is seeing related, hasn't been much good seeing around lately
It is nice though Tim, the addition of Ha is good

The seeing in Melbourne was supposed to drastically improve about the same time the clouds came over

Very nice job Tim,
& a lot of work with over 18 hours of integration.
I think it would look a lot better with some sharpening applied to just the galaxy
which wouldn't be easy as there are some bright stars in line with it which would have to each
be blocked from the sharpening with an extra mask -
but it would be well worth the effort.

cheers
Allan

Nice image Tim. Good colour treatment, but a real shame about the softness.

Excellent, Tim.

Lovely colour.

Some minor tweaks are possible: Even on the published JPEG, a bit of wavelet sharpening works a treat, and you can even stretch the background a bit more to reveal an extended faint halo and then blend that in with the original with a mask. If one can do that with the JPEG, it will work even better on your underlying data which must be pretty good. Several distant faint fuzzies show nice form too.

A very nicely processed Sculptor. As others have mentioned it looks like you've left some sharpening able to be done but the colour and the Ha looks great.

Greg.

Sculptor Repro

I've been meaning to get back to this image for some sharpening and finally did. pushed the histogram up slightly, unsharp mask, and slightly more blue around the outside of the galaxy.
