Another New Phone-in Scam!

Just Beware of new kind of phone scam:-
Received a call just a few minutes ago from (indian-accented person) supposedly from Lee Davies - Traffic Accident Management Department regarding an accident with my vehicle I had about two years ago in Sydney and that I was eligible for a personal compensation of $2000!

Mind you I didn't mention that I am actually living in Perth, WA and that I never drove in Sydney; so I asked what is this compensation all about and then was told that I had to provide a few details first before I can get paid.

Hahaha! Next question I asked was "If you already know that I had an accident and was eligible for a $2000 payment why would you need my details since you already know all there is to know?" and that resulted in the call ending abruptly!!

I could hear in the background operators working along similar lines of conversations and thought how well organised these people are!

Well I would have played along with the guy a bit more but wonder how many unfortunate "victims" this crowd had snagged in the bag...

HTH
Cheers
Bill

Someone is always trying something, I got an email today with a Word doc attachment for a bill I supposedly had to pay to someone I have never heard of. Obviously this is one way of getting collared with the ransomeware that is going around. If I had opened the doc, I may well have had my whole computer compromised and the only way to get it back working is either to re format, or have a backup offline or pay the mongrels to decrypt the whole shooting match.
So beware of any emails that get sent with attachments even if they are from someone you may know.

I have had this week....
The above accident scam.
The recorded voice from the "tax office" to call before they start action.
And the old you have a virus.

I was discussing this with my father and the question came up.
What is being done about this stuff.
Does the police or any department go after these scammers or is it all too hard?
I would like to corner some Polly and ask in my unrelenting take no b......dust answer fashion.
I can hear them waffling in my imagination.
But I have heard and this may not be factual that scramming drains extraordinary amounts of cash from victims.
Is Government up to protecting us.
I know what the answer will be... Why do we allow inaction??
What's Allen Jones doing about it for starters.
Why is there no public outcry.
Alex

With a billion people in India, who are you going to cry to?

I had a new (to me) one a couple of weeks ago. They said they were a Banking Survey group and wanted to ask me how satisfied I am with my bank. I waxed lyrical for about 5 minutes on how good mine is and I'm sure he was drooling when I finished. He asked, for the survey, which bank, and I said No! Kept him on for another few minutes before he wised up.

As far as I could tell, he knew my name and wanted the name of my bank. Where it might have gone from there, who knows.
