Remembrance Day 2006
Lest we Forget....
... All those who have fallen
... The Lives that where shattered
... The Pain and Suffering
... The Mateships Eternal
... The Selflessness
... The Reasons
... The Gift we received from them

"Lest we forget"- reflect and remember the sacrifice so many gave for our country.
My parents are today in Sydney attending a ceremony for a close family friend whose brother was killed while serving in Vietnam he was only 21, the brother had extended his tour to meet up with his father who was a senior army officer up there at the time. Tragically his death shattered the family and his mother took her own life and the father passed away soon after.

G'Day Beren,
That is a very sad story indeed and I have heard many, as a former soldier who was wounded while serving with the United Nations in the former Belgium Congo the 11th hour of the 11th day holds good and bad memories, I know that date is the official day to remember our dead who died in all wars, but I think off all my m8's every day, and I'll never forget.

Hi Arthur you have my admiration mate. Our family friend was only 14 when he's brother was killed , the brother was manning a machine gun atop of a armoured personal carrier {3rd Calvary unit} when it hit a mine, no one else was hurt.

Hi All,
Indeed, a day to remember for all of us,their sacrifice, has given us our freedom, and hopefully will never be forgotten.
I am sure we all have lost someone we cared about,in one conflict,or another.
May,they all,be remembered,with gratitude,and Love.
Regards.

G'Day Bern,
Thanks m8, but when your young (I was 18) you have no fear of death,it's all a big adventure, I had a friend who was just coming out of the plane after touch down, he was shot in the head, never had a chance to walk on African soil. But thats the chance you take.

Such beautiful sentiments and thoughts about these tragic events. The Poppy in the IIS side bar and the words honouring those who have fallen, those whose sacrifice has ensured our freedom, is a particularly nice and appropriate touch today.

As a former RAN LSQMG let me say:
TO ABSENT SHIPMATES
Let this be an ode
To the men who will never sail again
The men, who in the glory of their proud spirits
And the unselfish madness of their heroism
Have reached their Harbour on the other side
Age shall not weary them
Nor the years condemn
May peace and tranquility
Be theirs, Always.
Lest we forget.

I very touching tribute in the sidebar Mike.
We all have a debt of gratitude to those who have fallen to protect the freedom we enjoy, that allows us to be here now on this forum - It could have been a very different reality.
I Pray for the safety of our service Men & Women, whereever in the world they are on this day & every day - Amen

Most soldiers serve their countries. Many perish in that endeavour.
Remembrance Day (or Red Poppy Day) brings back to me that fact. Who can argue that there was not a brave soldier within the opposition's ranks? Who can say that all soldiers who died did so because of their personal beliefs?
To me this day evokes sadness; the fact that wars have, and will undoubtedly continue to be, fought. Sometimes it seems to be religious fervour, other times just a grab for power or territory.
Today I weep for all those who fell and those who were left behind.

Lest we Forget,
I will never forget all of those, living or dead, that have made my life so good today, I will take the time to make sure my 8 year old daughter understands what you have given us.

We should not forget what put these fine young men in such danger and almost certain death. The rich and powerful are still playing games with your lives. The only thrill these impotent men get is the abuse of power.
How many Aussie veterans of Afghanistan and Iraq will be told when they are suffering post traumatic stress that they were not really in a war zone and not eligible for a TPI pension or any other benefits they were promised.
This has happened to many people involved in every one of the last conflicts back to WW1.
