Treated Like a Bunch of School Kids?

G'Day All,
It seems as though that a few adults cannot have a discussion on a subject with out being treated like a bunch of school kids,and for what ever reason the thread is locked. I understand that there has to be "Oversight" on any thread as things can get heated at times and that unacceptable language may creep in. But Rocket Boy is under the impression that I was calling Tony a crook, not true, and even Tony knew where I was coming from. So much for free speech.Don't you think were all old enough to take care and defend our selves. Whats the point in having a General Chat Forum if discussions and options are going to be "gagged", reminds me of the present speaker of the house in Federal Parliament. I'm a Christain socialist and proud of it,and feel that the grab for money and corporate greed has gone to far and that was my whole point about ebay and the venerable people who buy there. I can sympathise with your sentiments. From my reading, you were not labeling anyone a crook. I also find your ideals quite honourable and refreshing - they do indeed warrant a place in the business world, where ethics are often the first casualty in most engagements.

Given the “strong” positions taken in the thread, positions that would unlikely change no matter what was said, I can see some scope for locking it, to protect the forum, its reputation and its members from any potential misunderstanding or conflict. Such threads can easily run away from where contributors intended them to go, and end up following a completely different path, with the potential for an unsatisfactory outcome for all involved.

Each one of us knows who we, what we believe in and what is important to us. Our on-line persona is constantly being broadcast in our totality of posts and the “loss” of one thread doesn’t really have that big an impact.

I am of course, speaking from that safe haven of not having had this happen to me, so have the luxury of being able to write in a detached manner. Keep on being you ; keep on posting – I for one enjoy them and learn from everyone.

Thank you very much for your comments, I appreciate your views and I agree with you entirely, I can sometimes get hot under the collar,charge it to my Irish blood and as you suggested I will continue to post, the closing of the thread is just water of a ducks back to me, after all I come from a country that has been fighting the English for a few hundreds years,"na whats a closed thread compared to that".

Arthur I was not offended by your comments at all.

I just felt I needed to explain some of my selling history before members made the assumption that my mind set was to rip people off.

As from my previous comment my intentions are completely opposite...I actualy enjoy looking after the current members here with some great deals.
Keep it in the family so they say.

I know closing of threads or delited threads can be offensive in it's own but I cant critisize the moderators for doing there job....there job is voluntry and its a job I wouldn't do.

hey no big deal...we can just start another thread.....it can be like groundhog day...lol

I agree 100% with the sentiment expressed by Dennis above, and very nicely worded. Where such a thread is turning into something nasty, first and foremost is protecting the reputation of IIS as a pleasant and friendly community to involved in, and when differences become nasty it certainly detracts from that. Theres nothing stopping people resolving their differences in private and IMO its preferable to do that rather than "airing dirty laundry" in public.

Moderators often have a tough time making judgment calls, and oftentimes get criticised no matter which stance they take in such matters.

easy come easy go... maybe you should have aired you grievences (sp) with the moderators tho instead of going public? maybe you did? who knows... the forum has a reputation to uphold... one of friendliness. let help it stay that way... gee i put alot of full stops in...

anyhow, we can let it fester or move on...

Great stuff, so whats next Tony .........actually what have you left , you just about got rid of everything last time. BTW WRT the toucam, I havent used it yet , was gong to yesterday but the rain put that one out of my mind, and mike had his big DMK there so I didn't want to show him up.

I dont mind what gets closed, its all for the common good, and for the record, the school kid in us all always comes out , some more than others. besides, you can always start discussions elsewhere like skype etc if you have a real bone to pick with someone, that way it keeps it civil

That was my #1 bugbear in my previous life as a moderator here.

It seemed that a high proportion of moderator actions would spawn a thread to tell the whole world about it in an attempt to garner public sympathies I think that doesnt happen nearly as often these days , which is a good thing.

Moderators have a tough thankless job and dont deserve to be subject to a public enquiry everytime they make a decision that somebody doesnt like.

Arthur noone is treated like school children. We are all adults here, but Dennis expressed my feelings very well. I'll try not to repeat what he said.

I've run this forum for over 2 years and i've seen a lot of people come and go, i've seen a lot of fights start over what seem like innocent comments, and sometimes people get offended even when there is no intent to offend.

I've also seen different personality types and where some people shrug things off, others will keep replying having to get the last say and won't let a matter rest - that's where moderators make a judgement call and sometimes they lock a thread.

Of course those participating in the thread sometimes take offence to the thread being locked, and start another thread asking why it was locked. This doesn't help the situation and will ultimately result in that thread being locked as well.

Airing dirty laundry in public isn't what this forum is about - and I find that most matters resolve themselves quite amicably in private without others jumping on one bandwagon or the other.

I fully support RB's actions in locking the thread - moderators are human and make judgement calls to protect the integrity and reputation of the forum. For better or worse, that's the (thankless) job they do and I appreciate their fine work in this.
