M8 (Lagoon) data for play :)

So far I have spent days fiddling with this data trying to tame the halos around the brighter stars with little success. The best I have been able to do so far is exchange purple halos for white halos. At the moment I am attempting to remove the halos but preserve some of the star colours.

The data set:
Ha: 16x900s
OIII: 12x600s
SII: 8x600s
Synthetic Lum: 15 of mostly Ha but with a mix of SII and OIII, 15 lowest FWHM subs which have been SNR weighted and combined with Linear Clip. I did attempt to do a FWHM combine but ended up with tighter central stars, many of which had extended halos, they just didn't look right.

This is my attempt although the synthetic Lum that I have uploaded here is different (more bloated in the core) due to only using the best (lowest FWHM) 15 images as opposed to combining all 36 (in my first process).

I have done many more renditions of this but keep starting over So, to everyone, go wild!

Hi Colin -
I think you've done a good job as is.
You could always add RGB stars another time if you want?

cheers
Allan

Hi Colin,

I took the opportunity to have a go at NB data as I haven't processed NB before. So I do apologise if it looks like dogs breakfast, but try as I might I could not get the colour mix to look like yours.

You have a lot of orange and the only orange I could get was in the stars.
So I think I missed the plot somewhere.

Cheers
Bill

Thanks for the play, nice data really.

Only a quickie as I'm supposed to be cleaning the house as we are shifting, was a lot of fun.

I would like to add RGB stars at some point in the future, prefer to do it on one of my dark sky trips though

One of the things that I really like about narrowband Bill is that there is a lot your own artistic interpretation that came come in With this being in the Hubble Palette, it is very strong in green due to the strong hydrogen emission. Once you tone down the green other colours start coming out.

I actually really like HOS without any colour calibration as it makes the skies look like they're on fire!

Quite like the strong blue cast, then again, azure is my favourite colour
