Colourful M20

Did 4 hours on the Triffid on Monday night, had a hard time with flats over correcting. Eventually I had to add an offset of 10,000 ADU to the masterflat to make it work correctly.

Cheers
Bill

Very colourful indeed!

Nice work Bill, I particularly like the stars in your photo

Interesting about adding an offset to the master flat - I have not thought about that. In the past I used to aim for about 20,000ADU in my flats and that was insufficient for proper correction, so now I try to get my flats around 30,000ADU mark, however, as high as 40,000ADU still works well (although the sensor is non linear at that stage).

Thanks Suavi,

My average for the masterflat was 30,000 ADU (max 39,000) but it over-corrected, with trial and error I needed 10,000 added on to the 30,000 for it to work properly.
Pain in the neck having to re-stack 50 subs for each iteration I tried,

Cheers
Bill

Thank you all for the nice comments, Mike I know a lady that lives nearby that produces Xmas cards, I might go and show her my pics and see what she says.

Cheers
Bill
