Celestron Nexstar 8i, whole lot or splitting items

Hi all,

I withdrew this scope from sale late last year to explore a modification to improve its practicality. The mod's been done (details below), and it is sensational, but I just have too many scopes to keep it.

Celestron Nexstar 8i goto scope in excellent working condition:
* Handset is updateable
* OTA in excellent condition, XLT coatings, Bob's Knobs on secondary & Losmandy Vixen style dovetail plate.
* GPS attachment
* Wedge
* Tripod - heavy duty, not the standard model that came with the 8i
* Celestron dew shield
* 25mm & 9.7mm 1.25" plossl eyepieces, 1.25" diagonal & 1.25" correct image diagonal
* Red dot finder
* Long cable to power from car battery
* Compass
* Bullseye spirit level
* Complete instruction manuals for scope and wedge assembly.

Red topped containers in the picture hold the various nuts & bolts.

MODIFICATION: The standard 8i sees the OTA fixed to the single arm mount, and cannot be readily removed. The modification sees the single arm mount have a dovetail mounting block coupled to it, and the OTA now has a Losmandy Vixen-style dovetail plate. The OTA can now be removed from the mount, and can have a 2" diagonal fitted to it with full freedom of altitude movement - something not possible with the OTA fixed to the mount. This is the way the newer 8se has the OTA coupled to the mount. The mount can also have other OTAs coupled to it this way too, such as a smaller SCT or Mak, or a short tube refractor.

The modification was professionally carried out by Eddie Dobbin & Sons in Wetherill Park, in Sydney's west. Their fine work allowed for the two alt index marks to have been kept intact.

I lament having to sell this scope. I really like the modification done, but I just don't use this lovely scope any where as much as I want.

Asking $1850 - pick up preferred (from Maroubra, in Sydney's east) as I don't have suitable crate to ship. At this stage I want to sell the whole lot as a package, and won't separate at this time. I can make a suitable set of crates and packing for freighting, but the cost of this will need to be passed on.

Forgot to mention, secondary mirror has Bob's Knobs fitted for easier collimation.

Inspection is welcome.

Thanks for looking,

Alex.

I am willing to ship this scope, however the cost of packing and shipping will need to be borne by the purchaser.

Thanks for looking.

Hi all,

After some PMs just to clarify, YES this is a GOTO scope. Says so too in the description. Always has been.

No, sorry, I won't separate the wedge from the lot. This way the entire functionality potential can be exploited with this instrument.

Thanks for looking,

Alex.

Hi all,

I'm now willing to split the lot.

* C8 OTA, with Losmandy Vixen style dovetail plate, Bob's knobs on secondary mirror, dovetail block for finder & rdf, 1.25" correct image 45° diagonal & standard 1.25" diagonal, 25mm and 9.7mm eyepieces, and Celestron dew shield - $950

* Celestron Wedge to suit standard C8's and the 8i and 8SE - $300

* 8i mount and heavy duty tripod (without OTA). The mount has the Vixen style dovetail block installed so OTA's up to a C8 in size can be accommodated. Comes with power cable, instructions, bullseye spirit level & GPS unit - $600
EDIT: I may also consider separating the mount and accessories from the tripod - any interest in tripod and mount separate from the other?

Or the whole lot for $1650.

Postage additional on split items and whole lot. Pick up welcome too.

I've added a couple more photos, one showing how the dovetail block modification now allows for a 2" diagonal to freely swing through the entire az/dec axis (2" diagonal and SCT adapter NOT included). Another pic shows an ED80 coupled to the mount (ED80 NOT included and is not for sale).

Thanks for looking,

Alex.
