IC2944 narrowband

My attempt at IC2944 - the Running Chicken Nebula.

Capture details:
SII: 27 x 600s
Ha: 24 x 600s
OIII: 25 x 600s

Vixen VC200L @ f6.4, NEQ6 mount, SBIG ST10XE @ -15C

Ha as Lum, SHO as RGB. Processed in Pixinsight, with the aid of Rick's Color Mask script.

I haven't had much experience with narrowband, so comments/feedback appreciated.

Not bad Richard but it would be even better with more data. I would also tone down the magenta a bit.

Cheers

It's not what I'd do colourwise, Richard, but I really like it!

Good detail Richard, the palette is a fair representation of the distribution of gases in the field but I prefer the more red/brown tones myself. With narrow band though it really is what you like and how you want to represent the gas distribution. I like the composition. Overall this is an very good image from an imager (to use your words) without "much experience in narrow band". Certainly better than some of my first attempts.

I really like the colours! I think it would make a spectacular starless version as it would look like a pastel painting or something
Killing off some of that magenta would be good (I still really struggle with that) and the first words that may come out of Strongmans mouth may be "Worms"

I do really like it though, a bit more data will make it easier to do noise control.

Perhaps a more aesthetically pleasing colour scheme for some rather than the more "scientific" version originally posted...

Hi, Richard,

Nice framing, and generally well done. In both versions you've pushed limited data to show very faint features.

The first version seemed to us to be very saturated, and, running my cursor over the image and looking at the numbers, too blue rather than too magenta.

The second version is much more what we'd expect and also prefer. Nice.

Looking forward to seeing further forays into narrowband.

Best,
M & T

The colour in second version seems more relaxing to look at. There is a bit of chroma noise that is really only visible at full res - maybe need a bit more data. The resolution is good and that could also possibly be improved further with more data. Overall, nice to look at.

nice going Richard especially considering you are using 10 minute subs. the S2 is really faint.

I don't mind a bit of magenta in the stars but the second is probably a bit nicer to my eye.

cheers
