Jupiter Planetary Camp June 2007 - wartookrise
Jupiter 2007
I am pleased to announce that Jupiter 2007 will be held at Wartook Rise.
http://www.wartookrise.com.au/
The camp will be held from 1 June - 14 June 2007. It is purely a planetary imaging camp. (Although I dare say some dark sky observing will occur later in the camp.) Some of Australia's best planetary imagers will be there. We are trying to create a planetary imaging camp, so light issues are not like at other camps. Paul has been there before and had good seeing.
Accommodation is very affordable and quite comfortable. We need a minimum of 10 people to make this viable and I need to know numbers quickly. Please indicate if you want to come. If we get 10+ then it is $27.00 per night for accommodation only. 15+ $25 per night. Food will be the individuals responsiblity in general, although I am sure I will put on a couple of nice Barbies at no expence to those attending. There would be a maximum of 22 at this site and we need to know numbers by 13th November to confirm the booking.
Those attending so far are:
Anthony Wesley (Bird)
Dave Pretorius (the guy that taught all these other young upstart how it is done, just call me DP )
Mike Salway (Iceman)
Paul Haese (Rumples Riot)
Mick Pinner
Those that indicate they will be attending will be added to the list.
If you need more details please contact me via PM.
David Pretorius
I will be forwarding these details to camp co-ordinator Paul Haese over on SCP

Hey DP, has anyone looked at the Jetstream history for the Wartook Rise area in June? Can't be worse than Brisbane in Winter, but interested all the same?
cheers,

From what I can tell it seems like the jetstream moves north over winter, settling over Brisbane, covering an area maybe 1000km north or south of it. One of the hopes in selecting a site so far south was to avoid the jetstream completely, but of course there is some variation due to weather systems.
cheers, Bird

Definately after a few more starters. Another 3 for the full 10 days would be great.

Let me know if you are interested. Do not be afraid that you can't image like the pros, we all started somewhere and all the guys are excellent in helping you out with all the aspects of imaging...................how do i know this, cos i was a beginner once too and the likes of bird, rumples, asimov and our illustrious leader iceman went out of their way to help me.
Love to see you there!

Hi all just an update.
The camp is now set and the deposit has been paid. We are now getting excited about this coming event and hope that those who said they would be attending will still be doing so. We want to get as many planetary imagers together to share information, ideas and do some planetary imaging.
We do need some more people to make the event a success and I encourage all those coming to email people who are into planetary imaging and ask them if they would like to attend.
The dates of the camp are from 1 June to 13 june. The accommodation link can be found here: http://www.wartookrise.com.au/index.php
So lets get recruiting. All enquiries should be directed to me and deposits should now be made to me. If you can confirm that you are attending and I will send you my account details for your deposit. If you are staying for only a couple of days you can make the whole payment. I am hoping that with current numbers it will be about $27 per night, but it maybe a little more each night. We need a minimum of 10 people each night for this amount to apply. The lodge can accommodate 22 people and is quite warm and cosy, with good facilities. Please not you will need to organise food for yourself though. Horsham is pretty close so that shopping can be conducted during the day.
So with that in mind, I hope that we can make this an annual event and make it a way of sharing information between those of us who are crazy enough to be involved in planetary imaging :-)

We are still looking for more peope for this camp. If you would like to come to the camp please contact me as I am the camp co-ordinator. You can do this via PM or email if you like. It is the first camp and we hope to run many more in the years to come.
It will be a great opportunity to get together with some of Australia's best and see how things are done or discuss ways in which to become a better imager. The camp will have an informal atmosphere and the accommodation is really nice.
It should not be seen as being for the "pro's", it is purely for planetary imaging. So whether you are wanting to get into this part of the hobby, or are doing lovely work already, feel free to come to the camp. The accommodation is very affordable, even for those staying the whole time. For those that want to stay for a shorter period I need to know the dates you intend on staying, so as to assure you of a bed. There is enough room to hold 22 people on any one night.
I look forward to hearing from you if you want to come.
Paul

i am going for two reasons
1. to catch up with mates
2. decide on my next scope for planetary. I have Birds newtonian design and computerized systems and also pauls 18".
Where else can you "brain" storm for a few days, tweak this, alter that........jump in the car and go and annoy the boys at bintel..........
cant wait!!!

Hi all,
due to unforseen circumstances I have shortened the camp to 1st - 11th June. We will be leaving on the morning of the 11th. Hope this does not offend, but I have to be in Adelaide on the 12th.
Anyone else who is interested please contact me, via PM. There is still plenty of room, so let us know if you want to join in.
