NGC 2174 Monkey head nebula

Hello altogether!

Today, I want to show you my image of NGC 2174. It's a well known, large emission nebula in Orion.

I got a new CCD in January, and of course the first clear nights were around full moon...so I had to do some narrowband-imaging.

The stars aren't perfect at the corners, I had to do some fine-tuning, but I hope I could hide it a little bit.

Image was taken in Upper Austria, at the Gahberg Observatory, with an 10" f/4 Newtonian, G2-8300 CCD.

Information and better resolution

Best regards, Markus

Hi Ross, Lee and Colin,

thank you very much!

Normally, I take my RGB images with the second telescope at the same time - so I do not have RGB filters on the 10" Newtonian. But - the "RGB scope" covers a smaller field of view, and I did not want to cut the nebula. So - white stars...

Great image Markus, very translucent shimmering O3 region, almost 3D feel to it with the dark dust lanes in the foreground.
Nicely processed - I'd also like to see this one with RGB stars to give it a more natural looking background, maybe that's possible in future?

Cheers

Andy

Thanks Marc, Michael, Andy and Dylan!

Maby, some day I will use RGB filters also on the 10" Newtonian, we will see.
