Sole pickings from a cloudy new moon weekend at Wiruna. This is a nice little galaxy in Pyxis which, for some reason, is not often imaged. More data is on the agenda.

NGC 2613 is a barred spiral galaxy in Pyxis about 66 million light-years away from Earth. It is thought to resemble our own Milky Way. The two smaller galaxies near the bright blue star in the upper right are PGC23977 (the larger one) and PGC86225. Also visible in the upper left quadrant is PGC86225.
NGC 2613 is an extremely massive galaxy that contains a deeply embedded active nucleus, probably hosting a supermassive black hole, lying within a smooth bulge of stars from which the many tightly wound spiral arms emanate.

Nice one Geoff! Good structure visible. An elegant little galaxy for sure. Stars are a little distracting though - they seem a little bloated (?) Thought of doing some star reduction?

Thanks Marc. I get the feeling that more exposure and good seeing might reveal some detail in a couple of the bigger fuzzies.

Yep, I guess that's the cause of the reddish brown colour

Thanks Marcus. You are right about the stars. It won't be hard to do this--just have to be subtle enough so that old eagle eye Sidonio doesn't notice. Watch this space.

Thanks very much Marco. I wonder why it's gone unnoticed. It's a reasonable size in an accessible part of the sky to most of the world.

Superb galaxy, Geoff. Intrinsically beautiful and well captured and processed.

Personally, I like the strong, bright contrasting Milky Way stars. I think the contrast makes the image as a whole and I wouldn't change them.

Looks good to me dude, contrast and colour are great! Probably tone down the ACNDR if that's what you're using for noise reduction - the background won't end up so "lumpy" and you'll preserve detail.

Thanks Mike. I'll experiment with the stars. Maybe reducing themiddle sized ones and leaving the big and small ones intact may work.

Thanks Chris. Actually, I used TGV to denoise. I've never been comfortable with ACDNR. The lumpiness probably comes from an over aggressive application of MLT in the linear stage. TGV smoothed it out somewhat. The real answer is more data. This is not a 3.8 hour exposure galaxy.
