Eventually some new shots :)

Hi all, after again a little hiatus from the hobby, I am posting something new on these pages. In fact I have two images, one that I uploaded quite a while ago but never reported here a a fresh new one.

The Great Orion Nebula (M42)

"THE" classic of the season , I had already posted a deep image of this nebula this nebula in the past but I was not entirely happy due to the lack of a good luminance to better highlight the intricate dust networks. Furthermore, the "old" HaRGB was taken before I replaced the optical window of the camera with a new one with better AR coating and was showing a lot of annoying halos around the brightest stars. The 2016 version add luminance and new Ha fits to the original long RGB files. In total more than 21 hours of exposure through 6 filters. Technical details on the page linked, full res view strongly recommended to appreciate the whole shebang in her glory.

A surprising M41 (the Little Beehive)

This popular visual target just four degrees south of Sirius is usually not much more than "pretty" in usual CCD images. Much less known to most is that the milky way surrounding M41 is rich of faint HII emission that gives a lot more appeal and color contrast to this area for those who dare deep Ha exposures. 1 hour and half through each RGB filter produced a colorful rendition of the main bright stars of this cluster, including several red giants. The long (6 hours) Ha recorder the faint emission, boosted a bit to the limit during processing to give a strong contrast in a otherwise a bit flat skyscape.. I hope you will enjoy this and perhaps discover something you didn't know about this area. In fact, I found no other images around showing Ha around M41...

Welcome back, Marco! A lovely pair of images. I like M41 best since it is just so different to all the other renditions I have seen.

Cheers,
Rick.

Always love it when you post new images Marco Love the M41, rich and vibrant colours in the stars - almost like a painting.

I like M41 Marco. Nice to have the Ha in the field like that. An interesting take.

Two bloody great pieces of work there Marco . I remember I previously commented on the slightly unnatural blend on the original of that M42 but it looks really great now, different but so interesting The M41 is so much more interesting with the Lorenzi magic applied too

Both lovely. The M42 seems to be showing more red/Ha than the typical brown dusty area. Certainly both have your style stamped all over them.

The M42 is like a map, showing every last hiding place for photons. Nothing missing.

The M41 is fascinating - I like clusters with lots of red giants, and this seems to be one of the very best. That it should be so evolved but still have wisps of H-alpha around is interesting.

Lovely work as always.

Best,
Mike

More superb images Marco!

The best M41 for sure - I have never seen the nebulosity before. M42 is great too - great image and processing.

Tony.

Thanks for the appreciation guys! I have to admit I am too partial to M41, despite being a simple target the color contrast between the red and blue giants and the re Ha background turned out to be pretty charming

Thanks Mike, I remember your comment about having a brighter core, happy you like it better now
What I find amazing of M42 is that, despite being imaged ad nauseam still shows some surprising color variations and fine details when imaged with quite deep exposures..

Clear skies
