Cambroon on the 21st

I'm hanging out for a bit of dark sky and socialising

Who's up for another terrific night of Ron's most excellent hospitality?

I'll try to make it if I can.
The Orionids are at their max this weekend so it should be a good show. 25 per hour! It would be nice to share the experience.

I too am hanging out for a night of good dark skies but sadly I'm working graveyard shifts Friday, Saturday and Sunday! We've got one person away on a weeks holidays, and there is no one left at all for me to try and swap shifts with.

Randall you'll have to soak as up as many photons as you can for me ... as Jeanette said the Orionids peak the same night, should be great!

Speaking of meteorites - I was out in the front yard with a mate and his daughter Saturday evening having a poke around the skies, we saw a couple of quite slow moving and very golden coloured meteorites, appearing as early as 7:30 pm. They followed a very vertical "straight down" path, one falling due west, the other nearly due south - if you could backtrack and plot a radiant for such wide spread objects it would have been somewhere east of Grus or so I guess. Very nice to look at, the golden colour quite beautiful!

Anyway apologies for this month .... am trying to arrange a mid week visit to Ron's instead. The good news is that by next month I should be in possession of a newly aquired (2nd hand) Baader Hyperion ep in 13 mm size, to complete the gap between my existing Hyperion/Stratus 17mm and 8mm ep's. Happy Days!!!!

(perhaps I should change that to " Happy Nights " )

I was talking to him today and I don't recall him mentioning going anywhere. Did you beat the storm out of there? I left Crystal Waters at Conondale at about 5:30 and got hammered going up the range and all the way to Nambour. Wicked storm.

Randall you must have gone to the wrong place as I have been here all day except for an hour this morning, What time were you out here? I think it was about around 16:00 when I went and opened the gate, if the gate is closed it is not locked, it is only closed to keep wondering stock out
We had a bbq on the verandah with about 8 people, the storm came in about halfway through the cooking but we managed to finish it after the storm finished.
No observing was done but it was still a good night for a chat and a few drinks the last people left at half past nine

Sorry Ron... I got there just before 4:00 so I must have just missed you... I've never seen your gate shut before so I just jumped to conclusions .

I'm sorry to have missed out on the socialising but I'll catch up with you all soon...

Randall, usualy some people get here befor you so the gate is always open when you get here, in the future if you see the gate closed just open it and come on in
We have had a few problems with stray cowes and horses so most people who have gates keep them closed, it also deteres unwanted hawkers of all denominations
Steve (Gargoyle) may be coming up tomorrow if the weather is fine, you are welcome to come also

Just confirming - yes, weather is looking good, I'm heading to Ron's tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon for what I hope is a night of great viewing of an amazingly clear sky, with hopefully plenty of spectacular Orionids still streaking across the sky. I know it's a tough one on a weeknight but Ron has thrown the invitation out yet again - anyone else keen to come along??

Steve - not everyone has the luxury of mid week leisure - I often think it would be great to trade my weekends for a few week days and avoid the crowds.

I was at Ron's on the 14th. Whilst the sky was clear, the stars were like christmas lights - twinkling like crazy. Hope you have better skies.
