An awesome Helix Nebula

Just noticed this at Jason Jennings site...excellent, the best Helix I have seen for a while and only 18hrs of exposure...aperture and speeeeed wins (great processing too of course )

The Helix Nebula

Shame Jason doesn't post much here much anymore ...so I go to his site regularly instead

Yep, it's a lovely Helix, Mike, and he's emphasized the Oiii component very well. Jase still posts on the Apogee list and maybe other places. Perhaps we can invoke his presence by dropping his name enough times

Cheers,
Rick.

Certainly a stunner from the master. The Helix itself is wonderfully brought out, but these very tight and deep images blow me away with their background galaxies. Just incredible.

I don't think its legal to post an image taken from Australia without also putting it up on IIS however?

It's ok, Mike is acting as Jason's fiduciary.

Fabulous image of the Helix. Love the radial O111 spikes.
The Overlay mask however seems to have put blue rings around all the stars which detracts from an otherwise standout image. A simple star mask should handle that.

Greg.
