Mosaic of Milky way

Hi all,
Heres a crop of a mosaic I have just finished. Taken with canon 300d and 50mm lense last month. This section is composed of 3 frames each consists of stack of 4 frames and one DF. Stacked in registax and joined etc in PS. Very pleased in the way it came out!! Exposures were 4 min at iso 800..
Might do a super large one if I get a good clear spell..
Cheers Gary...

Wow, that is stunning! Very well done.

You might have to wait until next year to complete it, with Scorpius setting so early these days

Higher res please..?

Yes that appears to be a super image Gary!

Can't really have a good look though with this low res attachment, the jpeg compression artifacts are too prominent. Can you post a link to a higher res version?

Mike

That is a stunner

Brilliant image, you must be happy with it? Any special problems matching up the widefiled shots?

Thanks Ric, Mike and Mike, john and Andrew,
This pic does not do much justice to the shot as the original is nearly 90 megs. sorry Mike but don`t have a web site as yet or space to post a higher rez picture, I`ll have to look into this, maybe some free web space! Have attached a small part of the pic of m8-m20 and that still suffers loss of detail from compression!
The only real problem with joining up the pics John is that there is some field curvature which makes it hard to get things cleanly joined. Had to adjust levels and brightness and contrast on one of the frames to help it blend in to the rest..
Thanks Guys.....

Gary, Gary, Gary!

What a stunner, mate.

I did almost the same thing last month (posted here) except I didn't do the super-widefield as you have done.

Tell me, is your 300D modified or unmodified? And, is that 50mm the F/1.8 or F/1.4? What did you stop it down to? F/2.5-F/2.8?

I have been dying to do the Rho Ophiuchus region, and pick up all that splendid red. It'll have to wait until next year.

Well done, mate.

Regards,
Humayun

Its a really nice image. Was it a dark sky site? Sure looks like it. Have you got Registar. With Registar you can produce and save registered images which match exactly dimensionally with each other where they overlap. Then a mosaic is far easier to produce. Send me (email) the three frames in JPG format and I will send back their registered version.

Great image.

Bert

What a fantasic image, i love it.

The detail is amazing, one of the best widefields i have seen posted here ever.

It definately brings on the drool factor

ps, Gary, if you like i can upload a high res image for you on my site, and you can link to it, just send me the pic via email.

I have 800 odd meg of free space, so it's no problem to upload it, it will be the same as the link in my signature.

Hi again,
shall PM you Mike so there should be a high resolution picture to download soon!!
Its the f/1.4 lense Humayun stopped down to f2.8, shows a few abberations in the corners which almost disappear at f3.2.
Thanks for the offer Trevor for uploading to your site but easier for me to FTP to IIS as we are on a slow dialup connection Thanks again..... Shall get back to you Bert as soon as I get some more spare time.
Thanks everyone for the kind comments and a high rez is on its way later tonight..
Cheers ..Gary..

That's better

That is certainly a better size to appreciate your effort Gary.

Your colour balance is perfect and the image is quite dramatic!

There appears to still be some colour blotching visible though, I guess this is just the result of the colour matrix of the DSLR chip and undersampling as well as some jpeg compression? It is clear that such a big original file still needs more resolution too .

An incredioble image non the less, very well done

Mike
